Brand new for the fall of 2021, Brian’s Custom Sports proudly introduces their newest pad line to the world; introducing the Brians G-Netik V Pro! While being custom handcrafted in Canada, Brian’s has taken feedback from their pro advisory team and retail consumers alike to provide high end levels of equipment designed for today’s butterfly goaltender.

Following the success and popularity of the visual look of the G-Netik IV, Brian’s has added more color zones while keeping the long lines across the legs to visually distract shooters on a flat and laceless pad face. Additionally, the “knee rolls” make their return on the outside of the pad next to the outer roll, keeping the G-Netik V’s legacy as more of a hybrid style pad.

Internally, Brian’s has found great success with their Torsion Flex technology and has improved upon it for the G-Netik V, providing the most responsive internal core they have ever made. The torsion flex allows the entire pad to twist and follow a goalie’s natural movements, while still providing a strong seal and rigid shape when set. Coupled with a thicker inner thigh ridge Brian’s had developed and an all new Bri-Core triaxle carbon-fiber composite reinforced thigh, the G-Netik V has significantly increased rigidity through the thigh and a tighter seal at the top of the pad along the ice. All this allows the goalie to make any save they need while moving and still having a solid seal along the ice to keep any pucks from leaking through.

Keeping with the success Brian’s has had with both the Optik and G-Netik lines, the G-Netik V has an Opti-Slide inner edge; a bindingless primo sliding surface combined with a higher density foam and laced in knee block to provide goalies with the best slide around.

An angled outer roll is more defined on the G-Netik V than you will find on the Optik models, providing a wider looking outer roll while still allowing for a larger blocking surface on the face of the pad.

Moving to the back of the pad, Brian’s has kept the simplified Smart Strapping system after receiving nearly universal positive feedback following its introduction. The large Y-shaped calf strap makes its return, running from the inside to the outside of the calf. At the knee, the single strap which can be worn directly behind or angled down to the calf is also back, as well as the removable outer knee flap; allowing for a customized fit to fit any goalie’s preference. New this year is a built in tab to allow for the easy addition of a professor strap to control rotation around the upper calf.

Throughout the knee and leg channel, the G-Netik V features a full layer of SBA material on the knee block, back of the pad, outer knee lock and even throughout the shin to help grip the goaltenders leg to prevent over rotation. Down in the boot, the G-Netik V has primo throughout the boot to create a positive rotation for the skate to engage with the ice and also increase durability from the skate rubbing on the pad.

The boot and toe have some new updates which include Brian’s new Smart Strap toe cord which is made of an elastic shock cord. This Smart Toe design builds off of their previous generation which provides better durability and a more responsive pad. The boot section is finished with the Smart Strap boot which is made of a high end nylon designed to provide great durability but a lightweight simple strapping system to keep the foot in the pad.

If you are an elite-level goalie looking for the best combination of a butterfly oriented goal pad with hybrid features, all wrapped with simple smart strapping made in the Canadian factory, the Brians G-Netik V Pro Senior Goalie Leg Pads are for you.

The Fix
Format: Hardcover
An insightful and interesting book on how our country's first legislators try to make sense of the new and fairly short U.S. Constitution, which, being drafted by humans, was bound to be imperfect. A lack of clarity on some point might be due to the changeable nature of words themselves or to confusion or obscurity of thought by the authors. And, who were the authors? The men in the room who came up with the product or the various state conventions that approved the final product? Professor Gienapp writes well and with a fine grasp of his subject. He uses concrete examples to illustrate his main points. For example, Congressional debates over the constitutionality of a proposed federal bank, the ratification of Jay's Treaty, and even whether the Bill of Rights was to be incorporated into or simply added to the original document. Most people think of U.S. constitutional history in terms of its drafting and ratification and/or its later judicial interpretation by the Supreme Court. Here, Professor Gienapp focuses on the initial work of interpretation by the first few sessions of Congress. This book is essential reading for those interested in the U.S. Constitution and the internal architecture of our government. I think those who spend countless hours viewing frenetic talking heads say this or that about the constitutionality of some issue or another (or the nomination of a justice to the High Court) should throw their television set out the window and, instead, settle into a corner chair and calmly read this and other such thoughtful books. This one should win prizes.

Excellent Book
Format: Hardcover
Stanford University History Professor Gienapp has done an outstanding job of researching and writing this historical analysis of the interpretation of the American Constitution by America's first Congress. Professor Gienapp analyzes data primarily from Congress's problems interpreting the removable of executive officers, chartering a national bank and approval of the 1794 Treaty with Great Britain negotiated by Chief Justice John Jay, the "Jay Treaty." Gienapp shows in clear writing how Congress used records of the debates at the Constitutional Convention and State Ratification Conventions to resolve these constitutional issues. I highly recommend this book to anyone concerned with the interpretation of the American Constitution.

An analysis of how we came to think about the Constitution the way we do
Format: Kindle
It provides a detailed analysis of the arguments used to talk about the Constitution in the ten years after it was ratified. These arguments shifted from treating it as a preliminary draft to be perfected through filling in the details of the operation of the government through experience, to a sacred document that had to be interpreted to determine its "true" meaning.

I Really Wanted to Like This, But...
Format: Audiobook
My 2 star review is entirely due to the audio performance. While the premise and scholarly research in this book is fascinating, the narration is anything but. The narrator speaks, and at times even PERFORMS, every "quote" and "unquote" no matter where they are in the text. In a long (20 hours) book relying heavily on quotations, this narrative choice dramatically detracts from the listener's ability to absorb the material. One wonders why he doesn't say, "period," after every sentence! In addition, he sounds like he's spraying a lot of spit at the mike while speaking. Yes, euw. I listen to 3-8 audiobooks a week, and have done so since the early 1990s, so this isn't my first, or even my first scholarly, audiobook. The better narrators designate quoted text with a shift in vocal tone or slight pause. If you are considering this book, I hope you choose the print version.
