Pensacola Bahiagrass Mix - Fall & Winter Mix

  • Pensacola Bahiagrass (Coated)
  • Gulf Annual Ryegrass
  • Brown Top Millet

Mis is subject to change.

This mix is shipped October 15 through February 28th, unless otherwise requested.

Our Fall & Winter Pensacola bahia grass seed mixture contains 75% Coated Pensacola Bahiagrass and 25% Annual Rye Grass. The Annual Rye grass is added to assist in fast ground coverage, retaining soil moisture and preventing soil and seed erosion. The Annual Rye will also provide an effective spring germination environment for the permanent Pensacola Bahia grass. As nighttime spring temperatures increase to 65 to 70 degrees the Annual Rye grass will begin to die out. As the Annual Rye grass begins to die out the Pensacola Bahiagrass will begin to emerge through the established Annual Rye grasses root structure. Pensacola Bahiagrass seed requires 2-3 weeks of constant 65 to 70 degree nighttime temperatures combined with soil moisture to stimulate germination. It is very important to water and mow the newly seeded areas in the spring. This prevents the Annual Rye grass from overcrowding and shading out the young Pensacola Bahiagrass seedlings as they emerge. To insure a successful seeding and establishment experience please refer closely to the planting guide provided with your order.

Coated Seed vs Raw Seed
Coated seed contains a clay-based surrounding shell that increases moisture retention and helps to reduce insect or fowl consumption. Coated seed contains approximately 50% coating weight, or inert weight, per pound of seed.. Raw seed features no fillers, coatings, or treatments.

Rave Reviews

It's no secret why Hancock's Pensacola Bahia Grass Seed Mix is so popular. The answer is "because it works"! Just click below to see a few of our favorite reviews from clients who have planted Hancock's Pensacola Bahia Grass Seed Mix:

Over seeding an existing lawn - Bare spots can be easily filled in by spreading the area by hand or with a spreader. Remember, after spreading the seed to lightly rake in the seed to cover no deeper than 1/4 inch. To properly over seed the entire lawn, use 2 to 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. after removing as much unwanted dead or living vegetation.

Pasture Applications
New Pastures - Plant 50 to 100 lbs. per acre.
(25 lbs. takes 12-24 months to fully sod the pasture.)

*The more seed applied to the lawn or pasture on the first planting the faster the lawn or pasture will fully establish a sod or grass base and prevent future over seeding to fill in bare spots.

Over seeding an existing pasture: Over seeding rates depend on the amount of established or existing grass in the pasture area. Common applications for over seeding are 25- 50 lbs. per acre.

Fertilization Recommendations:
Lawn Fertilization: Apply 5-10 lbs. of 16-04-08 slow release fertilizer per 1000 sq. ft. four times a year (Late Spring, Mid Summer, Late Summer, Early Fall) for the first two years. After a fully established lawn has been accomplished apply 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. two times (Mid Summer,Late Summer) a year.

Pasture Fertilization: Apply 250 lbs. - 350 lbs. of 16-04-08 slow release fertilizer per acre in Late Spring, Mid Summer and Early Fall. Animals that are grazing will damage the Bahiagrass pasture if the pasture is not properly fertilized annually. The grass must be provided with adequate nutrients to compete with the animals.

Reliable scale, great for starting on a budget while still getting fairly solid results
This scale performs wonderfully and is very reliable. I will say the only issue I am having is that it seems to be very very touchy with not getting an exact weight reading and flickers a lot. I don't think this is really an issue as it might just be super sensitive. But for the price it's absolutely worth it

You Don't Really Need This, But...
This combination coffee scale and timer works exactly as advertised. It measures weights up to 2000 grams with 1/10 gram accuracy. The scale has three operating modes: espresso, pour over and manual. In espresso mode, the scale will automatically tare after a cup is placed on it then automatically start the count up timer and weigh incoming espresso as it starts to pour. In pour over mode, it will automatically tare after your cup/dripper/filter is in place. Then it weighs out the coffee dose as you add it. After you tare again manually, the timer and scale will start as you pour hot water. This allows you to let the saturated coffee grounds off gas for the desired number of seconds before continuing the pour. Manual mode is just that. You control the tare function and start the timer yourself. Battery capacity is great so USB charging will be infrequently required. Accessories include a short USB-A to USB-C cord and a clip-on silicone heat shield to protect the scale from hot espresso. Coffee spills are easy to cleanup and don't seem to have any ill effects on the scale itself. One gripe though: the weighing platform is only about 10 cm square so anything larger than a small coffee cup will block part of the digital displays. After all, the scale needs to fit inside an espresso machine. It isn't a full size kitchen scale. But really, do you need this device? If you want to be ultra precise in your coffee measurements, you love gadgets, or you revel in the coffee making ritual, the answer is certainly YES!

Scale programming and stabilizing
It took me a little time to figure out the different programming modes but now I know how to get quickly to the program I need for the coffee I brew. The scale is very sensitive and it takes a second until the scale stabilizes. All in all, I like it.

Precise, with super focused controls.
Color me impressed. I wanted to upgrade from an old Oster brand scale. It was a workhorse, and I still use it, but I prefer this Maestri House scale for coffee and tea. I compared them side-by-side, and their measurements are near identical. I've abused my old one, so I would imagine the M H to be more reliably calibrated, although the differences in readings while set to Grams was .01, so, for me, inconsequential, and may well have been user error as I had no control to measure them against. Here's what I like and prefer about the Maestri House S1: I love that it is rechargeable with readily available USB-C cords. I can take it with me, and not have to worry about swapping batteries. I love the silicone band that protects the platform. It is easy to clean, and doesn't seem to interfere with measurements. The scale is very sensitive. I could add or remove a literal pinch of ground coffee and it would register on the scale. The digital readout is bright enough to easily see. The controls could not be simpler: tap once to Tare, twice to change the unit of measurement. You can set it to liquid or dry ingredients as well. I also love that I can switch between grams and ounces without having to remeasure. Most scales do that these days, but I appreciate it. The timer is simple and easy to control--a very nice inclusion. Also, since the buttons are VERY sensitive, I barely have to touch them, so the scale stays perfectly still, and they work with wet hands. This device is focused, designed to be especially effective for making coffee or tea. It is compact, which makes it the perfect size for cups, mugs, filter baskets, etc. I wouldn't use it for baking or other kitchen tasks. Ok, I WOULD try to use it for that--I just wouldn't recommend it. It's too small for bowls and trays, because it wasn't designed for those. It is PERFECT for brewing and drink mixology. Also, I prefer to keep scales like these designated to weights under 5 pounds--let the Oster handle the big stuff. Overall, I think it's a fantastic little scale. I have had no reliability issues. Will it hold up over time? I think so. Plus, it looks great in my coffee corner. Satin black is kind of my theme. Happy brewing!
