Hymenocallis 'Tropical Giant'

Around our company, we often just call this bulb, the "Tropical Giant." It is often called a "white spider lily" because of the white spidery blooms that it produces; however, this is not related to the red spider lily at all. This bulb is in the Hymenocallis family and is a summer-producing bulb. The foliage looks nice throughout the summer, making it a favorite accent plant used by landscapers in public gardens (i.e. take a walk along the River Walk in San Antonio and you'll see plenty of them a short distance from the Alamo).

Texture is such an important part of your garden. We love color in our gardens, and that is what seems to draw our attention first, but it is the texture in the garden that provides the canvas and form for your garden. The "Topical Giant' is one of our favorites for providing texture to your garden, especially in the 100+ degree temperatures of late summer.

Foliage: The foliage of the "Topical Giant" is amazing! The dark green foliage reaches up to 3-4 feet tall and is long and strong which continues to stand up in the summer heat. The foliage doesn't wilt during the hot summer months in 100+ degree temperatures with the full sun beating down on it.

Blooms: The "Tropical Giant" looks like a great plant and then suddenly in mid-July little puffs of white burst forth all over the plant. The white spidery blooms seem to sit on top of the foliage as if waiting for a strong wind to blow them off.

Dependable: "Tropical Giants" thrive in zones 8-10. As one of the most cold hardy varieties for this semi-tropical plant, they are known for multiplying quickly and surviving freezing temperatures. On the other hand, I've seen them on the Yucatan Peninsula and across Belize where they grow with reckless abandon and never go dormant. In our Zone 8, where we recently reached 3 degrees F., a little mulch is always a good idea. The foliage will die back with the first frost, but the bulbs are fine. This is a great opportunity to clean around the beds, cut back your other perennials, and plant plenty of daffodils, snowflakes, and other spring blooming bulbs that will carry your garden through the winter months.

Plant: Allow the very tip of the bulb to be visible above the dirt. Plant in well-drained soil where the bulb will receive 8+ hours of sun a day. It can absolutely be planted where it will receive full sun!

The lush foliage in the summer time is a great home for anoles, some of our favorite lizard friends.

These Bamboo Pillowcases Made Me Realize I Sleep Hot
Color: 07 - Cream, Size: Queen (20" X 30"), Color: 07 - Cream, Size: Queen (20" X 30")
I bought these mostly because I kept hearing people talk about bamboo pillowcases and honestly thought it sounded a little overhyped, but I totally get it now. The first thing I noticed was how cool they felt compared to regular cotton. I tend to get warm when I sleep and flip my pillow a million times during the night looking for the cold side, and these actually stay noticeably cooler longer. They also feel really soft without having that weird slippery texture some silky pillowcases have. My skin has been less irritated lately and my hair definitely looks less frizzy in the mornings. I have thick hair that tangles easily overnight, and these have helped more than I expected. Another thing I appreciate is that they’ve washed well so far. I was worried they’d pill or lose softness after a wash cycle, but they still feel smooth and nice. They also just make the bed feel cleaner and more comfortable overall. One of those small upgrades that ends up making a bigger difference than you’d think.

Sheets are good. Greens don't match
Color: 08 - Sage Green, Size: King (20" X 36"), Color: 08 - Sage Green, Size: King (20" X 36")
I purchased the sage green sheets to go along with another Bedsure comforter, then purchased 2 more pillow cases (because i I like a lot of pillows) and the greens don't exactly match. This doesn't REALLY bother me as I feel like its fine with a little "texture." Sheets feel nice and light and I love the look of it in my room.

Good buy Pillowcases
Color: 08 - Sage Green, Size: King (20" X 36")
I bought these Bedsure king-size pillowcases from Amazon and overall I’m very happy with them. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly soft and smooth the fabric feels. They almost feel silky, which makes them very comfortable to sleep on. When you lay your head down, the material feels cool and gentle on the skin, which I really like. I also appreciate the zipper closure. It keeps the pillow securely inside the case and makes everything look neat and tidy on the bed. The zipper is hidden well and doesn’t feel bulky or uncomfortable. The only small downside is that the pillowcases are so smooth that the pillows can sometimes slide around or even slip off the bed a little. However, that’s really just because the material is so silky. Overall, I would still recommend these pillowcases. They are soft, comfortable, and feel like a nice upgrade compared to regular pillowcases.
