🌿 Kava Kava Root, Cut & Sifted

Kava kava root (Piper methysticum) is one of the great social and ceremonial plants of the tropical Pacific, where its roots have been pounded, steeped, and shared for centuries to mark gatherings and quiet the end of a long day. Our root arrives cut and sifted, the format traditional brewers and apothecaries reach for most, ready to knead into a classic kava beverage or to fold into your own blends. The taste is honest and earthy: a deep soil note, a clean peppery bite, and a bitter gentian edge that tells you the root is fresh and well graded.

Kava is a true child of the warm Pacific islands, and it grows best in the humid, volcanic ground where it has always thrived. We source ours from vetted partner farms in Vanuatu, the plant's ancestral home, and from kava growers in the United States, so every batch reflects roots raised exactly where the plant flourishes. We hold each of these farms to the same standard that defines our own work: clean growing, careful drying, and full per-lot lab testing on everything we carry. You can explore kava's heritage and traditional preparation in our field guide, Kava Kava: A Dive into the Roots of Tranquility.

Transparency is the spine of how we sell. Every lot of kava root we ship is backed by a specific Certificate of Analysis verifying purity, potency, and a clean contaminant screen, and we publish each batch's COA on a single historical page so you can confirm the exact lot in your order. You can read the current and past lab results on that same kava article page. Kava sits naturally alongside our other calming botanicals in the stress support collection and our wider range of exceptional root herbs.

🌱 From the Sacred Plant Co Farm. Sacred Plant Co is a soil-first farm. Our own farm in Colorado earned a groundbreaking Haney Soil Health Score of 25.4, a number that surpasses the soil biology measured in pristine forest land. That score is the heart of who we are. We believe healthier soil grows more complex, more potent plants, and that philosophy is the reason we hold every herb we carry to the same biological and per-lot testing standards.

🍵 How People Use Kava Root

Traditional Kava Beverage

The classic preparation: cut and sifted root kneaded in water and strained through cloth into an earthy, peppery drink shared at gatherings.

Evening Wind-Down Tea

Steeped gently and sipped slowly, kava has long been part of relaxed, sociable evenings across the Pacific islands.

Custom Apothecary Blends

The cut and sifted grade measures and blends cleanly, a favorite base for herbalists building their own calming formulas.

🌿 Preparing a Traditional Kava Drink

  1. Measure. Place a few tablespoons of cut and sifted kava root into a clean muslin or nut-milk bag set inside a bowl.
  2. Add water. Pour in 2 to 3 cups of warm (not boiling) water over the root in the bag.
  3. Knead. Massage and squeeze the bag in the water for 5 to 10 minutes, working the root until the liquid turns earthy brown.
  4. Strain. Wring the bag firmly to express the last of the liquid, then lift it out and discard the spent root.
  5. Serve. Stir and pour into a cup or traditional shell, and sip slowly. The flavor is meant to be earthy and peppery.

Safety & Considerations

Kava has a long ceremonial history, and traditional use has always treated it as an occasional rather than constant companion. Use it in moderation and follow traditional preparation. Avoid combining kava with alcohol, sedatives, sleep aids, or other central nervous system depressants, as the calming effects can compound. Kava may slow reaction time, so do not drive or operate machinery after use.

Kava has been associated in some reports with effects on the liver. Do not use it if you have a liver condition or take medications that affect the liver, and discontinue use if you notice any signs of liver discomfort. Kava is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Always consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially regarding dosage, frequency, and any medications you take.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use.

🍃 Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare cut and sifted kava root for a traditional drink?

We place a few tablespoons of the cut and sifted root in a fine muslin or nut-milk bag set inside a bowl, pour over 2 to 3 cups of warm water, and knead and squeeze the bag for 5 to 10 minutes until the water turns earthy brown. We then wring out the bag, discard the spent root, and sip the strained liquid slowly. The cut and sifted grade is ideal for this because it releases cleanly and strains without fuss.

What does your kava taste like, and how do I know it is good quality?

Our kava carries honest tasting notes of earth, pepper, and a bitter gentian edge, the signature of fresh, well graded root. We are a soil-first company, and our belief that healthier soil grows more complex, more potent plants is the reason we hold every herb we carry to full per-lot lab testing. With kava, that means each batch is screened so you taste the root as it should be.

Where is your kava kava root sourced from?

Kava is native to the tropical Pacific and grows best in the humid, volcanic ground it evolved in. We source ours from vetted partner farms in Vanuatu, the plant's ancestral home, and from kava growers in the United States, so the root is raised right where it flourishes. Every lot we ship receives the same per-batch lab work and the same 100% money-back guarantee as everything we carry.

How can I verify the exact batch I receive is clean and tested?

Every lot is backed by its own Certificate of Analysis confirming purity, potency, and a clean contaminant screen, and we publish each batch's COA on a single historical page so you can match the lot in your order. You can review the current and past results on our kava article page. If anything about your order falls short, our policy is simple: if you aren't happy, send it back and receive a full refund. Anytime, for any reason.

The Chuck Norris of Dog Toys
Color: Orange
If dog toys were superheroes, the Nevperish K9 Training Ball would be Batman—indestructible, effective, and always ready to save the day. This thing flies. I’m not saying I could take out a rogue squirrel in a single throw, but… let’s just say those little guys know to keep their distance now. My 100lb German Shepherd, who we affectionately call "The Toy Terminator," has destroyed every squeaky, chewy, or bouncy thing in her path. But this? This glorious, rope-swinging masterpiece? She’s met her match. It’s like her teeth have signed a peace treaty with this toy. Speaking of flying, if you have neighbors with a backyard that’s less than a football field away, be prepared for some fence-hopping cardio. I’ve had more awkward encounters with my neighbors than I care to admit. Thankfully, my shepherd has learned the art of the double hop—over their fence and back—like some four-legged ninja gymnast. Bonus: great entertainment for the neighbors. This toy isn’t just a ball on a rope; it’s a lifestyle. Open fields? Perfect. Tug-of-war? Immaculate. Backyard fetch? A cinematic masterpiece. It’s basically the Swiss Army knife of dog toys, minus the danger of accidental stabbing. Pro tip: Don’t underestimate how far this thing can go. My first throw ended with the ball in orbit—or maybe it just bounced off a satellite. Either way, my dog was thrilled, and now I need an arm warm-up routine before playtime. So, if you want a toy that’ll outlast your dog’s dental fury and make fetch sessions the stuff of legend, this is it. 10/10, would absolutely get weird looks from neighbors again.

Our German Sheppard loves these
Size: Medium
These cost a bit more than tennis balls, but they are so much nicer and longer lasting. For starters, they stay cleaner than tennis balls because they’re smooth rubber. Dirt won’t build up on them and if anything does stick, like grass or soil, it falls off once the dog slobber dries. They’re also thick, so they don’t fall apart or blow out like a normal tennis ball does in our dog’s jaws after 30 seconds. Our GS chomps on these like crazy and the only damage they’ve suffered is a crack that developed from the edge of the hole, but the crack is growing very slowly and none of these balls have totally failed yet. The balls do whistle when thrown ant high speed and that may help a dog track and locate it, but I’m not sure. Our neighbors hear the whistling too so it’s far from silent. Lastly the orange ball is easy to locate out in our yard, but the dark blue practically disappears.

Great for smaller dogs
Size: Small
These two balls are perfect for the smaller mouthed dog that loves to play fetch. These balls are not only super durable (lots of teeth biting), but float in the baby pool we use for our miniature dachshunds. The value here is much better than you’d find anywhere else. The noise, if bitten hard enough, was “low” at best. Easy to spot/find if overthrown. Will definitely buy again once these are in bad repair; so far, so good-love these for my fur babies!
