Ishikura Long Japanese Bunching Onion Seeds – Heirloom Green Onion Variety With Long, Tender Stalks
Allium fistulosum
Listing is for 1 packet of minimum 30 seeds

Bring the authentic flavors of Japan to your garden with Ishikura Long Japanese Bunching Onions! This exceptional variety is known for its extra-long, tender white stalks and mild, sweet onion flavor, perfect for soups, stir-fries, salads, and traditional Japanese dishes. Unlike regular green onions, Ishikura Long onions do not form bulbs but instead grow thick, straight, and upright, making them an excellent choice for continuous harvesting. These hardy, fast-growing bunching onions thrive in a variety of climates and can be grown year-round in mild regions.

Growing Tips: Start seeds indoors or sow directly in well-draining soil with full sun. For longer, blanched stalks, mound soil around the base as they grow to encourage extra white, tender stems. Keep soil consistently moist and fertilize occasionally for vigorous growth. These onions can also be successively planted for a steady supply of fresh green onions all season long.

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: 8 hours of full sun

Water: Let the soil dry out a little in-between watering

Fertilizer: Regular applications of an organic granular fertilizer, like Espoma Garden-Tone, or blood meal, will help promote lush leaf growth.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Sow seeds densely in 4 inch containers, 72 cell seed trays or flats and pull them apart when its time to transplant. Transplant them when seedlings are 4-5 inches tall. Space them 3 inches apart or mix them throughout your garden and veggie crops to deter pests. Can also direct sow the seeds after your last spring frost date or in fall when you plant your fall garden.

Zones 9-12: Onions are a cool weather crop. Sow seeds in July and transplant once they are big enough (usually in 2-3 months). Grow them thru fall, winter, and spring.

Zones 8 and below: Onions grow better in spring. Sow seeds 5-8 weeks before your last spring frost date and transplant once all danger of frost has passed.

Please watch my YouTube video on how to sow onion seeds for complete instructions: https://youtu.be/g35dF8aVDhw

Germination: 7-21 days Onions are slow to germinate

Days To Maturity: 80 days after transplanting

How & When To Harvest: Can harvest the greens at any time. I like to harvest a few green leaves at a time instead of pulling out the whole stalk so it will continue growing/producing.

Common Diseases: The most common disease when growing green bunching onions is downy mildew. This fungal disease thrives in cool, damp conditions, causing pale green or yellow patches on leaves that progress to grayish-purple mold, eventually leading to leaf dieback and reduced growth. Avoid overhead watering and ensure proper spacing for good air circulation. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, which will kill the fungus, clean, and disinfect the leaves.

Common Pests: The most common pests on green bunching onions are onion thrips and onion leaf miners. Thrips are tiny insects that feed on sap, causing silvery streaks and stunted growth, while leaf miners are flies whose larvae burrow into leaves, creating damaging tunnels. Treat thrips with an organic insecticidal soap or spinosad.  Leaf miners for the most part is just cosmetic damage, and are actually not so bad that it affects the plants. You can remove leaves that have their signature white trail markings if you would like.

Perfect Little Nugget Ice!
Color: Piano Black, Color: Piano Black
I'm not one to usually do reviews, but I really love this little countertop ice maker. I was spoiled when I had an icemaker in my fridge at our previous house. This Countertop Ice Maker Machine is AMAZING and I'm so thankful for it! The size and shape of the ice is just right. It's super! The little nuggets are just the right size. They are not too hard. The ice becomes light and chewy. It's like I was eating ice skittles, lol. So simple to use. Fast too! I believe I can get a full tray (about 5-6 scoops) in less than an hour, maybe 45 minutes? I guess it makes some noise, it's not loud enough to bother me one way or the other. One button does it all - one quick tap to make ice and one short push to clean the machine. Simple to clean, cycle takes 15 minutes, dump the water (pull to edge of counter and open plug on bottom, let drain in small jug or bowl. Then, rinse, repeat twice and let air dry overnight and it's ready to go and go and go again the next day. It really feels sturdy and solid. I'm thinking if the inside is built as good as the outside this will last a long time. I've been seeing Typhur products more often and I know they are a quality brand name.

Built for people who love nugget ice!
Color: Piano Black
If you love nugget ice, this machine delivers exactly what you’re hoping for - soft, chewable, restaurant-quality pellet ice at home, consistently and quickly. The biggest differentiator is speed and volume. It produces up to 35 lbs per day, and the first batch is ready fast. The ice texture is true crushed pebble/nugget style - not hard cubes disguised as “pellet” ice. It’s ideal for iced coffee, sparkling water, cocktails, and entertaining. The stainless steel exterior feels premium and modern on the countertop. Noise level is typical for a countertop ice maker, noticeable but not disruptive. It’s not silent, but it’s absolutely reasonable for the output.

Short life span
Color: Piano Black
We really liked this ice maker. The good-the water reservoir and ice basket are larger than in our last one, so we only refilled this one maybe once a day (family of 4). The ice didn't build up on the side and trigger the ice maker full shut off like our previous one. It is quieter than our last one too, and seemed to make ice just as fast. The bad-it doesn't turn itself back on as the ice melts and refills the water reservoir. The really bad-we've only used distilled and RO water in it. We've been fighting with it for a couple of months now to get it to make ice. We've cleaned it over and over with the cleaning solution. We also cleaned the vents as suggested with a vacuum and compressed air. It's to the point that it literally makes 2 ice cubes every time we start it, and that's it. We bought it 6 months, and we're giving up on it. We'll try another brand.

Almost Perfect
Color: Piano Black
Came from another ice maker and I miss two things: 1) size. This unit is tiny. It might be good if it’s just for you and maybe one other person, but for a family of four where everyone uses ice for their drinks and water bottles around the clock, this was constantly empty and needing more water. 2) the ability to start making ice on its own after there’s enough water. It has a sensor to tell you when it’s full of ice and it has a sensor to tell you when the water level is low, but it doesn’t have a sensor to tell it when the water has been refilled. You have to push the “ice making” button twice to get it to restart. Not a huge problem, but if you’re like me and leave your ice machine on 24hrs a day, you could come back to an empty ice machine after the ice in the basket melts. With my old ice maker, the machine would sense the water was low and stop. But then all the ice that was already made and in the basket would melt and fill the reservoir again and the machine would sense that and start back up on making a new batch small gripes, I know. Overall, it’s a nice, cute little ice maker and my kids love nugget ice.
