Emerald Okra Seeds (Abelmoschus esculentus) – 50+ Non-GMO Heirloom Seeds for Planting, Smooth Green Pods with Tender Texture, by Isla’s Garden Seeds, Gift Idea for Gardeners

Emerald Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is a classic heirloom renowned for its smooth, deep-green pods and consistently tender bite. Vigorous, heat-loving plants produce generously through summer, offering mild flavor and excellent texture for frying, sautéing, stewing, and pickling.

Sturdy, upright plants reach 4–5 feet with attractive foliage and hibiscus-like blooms that invite pollinators. Harvesting frequently at 3–4 inches keeps pods tender and encourages continued production over a long warm-season window.

In the kitchen, Emerald’s straight, uniform pods slice cleanly and hold their color and shape well. Enjoy fresh from the garden or preserve by pickling or freezing for off-season meals.

Reliable, productive, and flavorful, Emerald Okra is a staple for gardeners seeking abundant, high-quality pods and easy, heat-tolerant growth.

🌱Planting Instructions

Approx seeds per order 50

Sow seeds directly outdoors after all danger of frost when soil warms to at least 70°F. For faster germination, soak seeds in warm water overnight. Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil.

Plant seeds 1/2 to 1 inch deep and space 12–18 inches apart in rows 24–36 inches. Keep soil evenly moist until established, then water deeply but infrequently to encourage strong roots. Mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Harvest pods when 3–4 inches long for peak tenderness; pick every 1–2 days to maintain production. Use pruners to avoid damaging stems, and wear gloves if sensitive to plant fuzz.

Good treats
Dogs love these! We have Chihuahuas and have to cut these in half for them as a while one is too large.

Healthy, Slightly Soft/Chewy Treat!
VERY pleased to have found these! Wanted something to offer Mookie as a "special treat" (a step up from Milkbones, but NOT long-lasting) that was healthy and easily digestible. He wasn't sure what to make of them at first... they're fairly soft and a little chewy, and they just smell like FRESH sweet potatoes -- not any fake meat or seasoning. Once he started chewing, however, he got very excited about the new treat, and now when he hears the bag being handled/opened, he comes running and does his little happy dance! We'll be keeping these on hand because the quality and reasonable price - combined with the LACK of tummy distress and his enjoyment - make this a "go-to" special reward.

A Nutritional Treat!
My German Shepherd loves this so much, I sometimes use it as a training treat! Sweet Potato is beneficial to dogs. The only complaint I have is the size consistency from bag to bag.

They used to be soft and moist but not now
These used to be one of my dogs’ favorite sweet potato treats, but they’ve gotten too hard and thick to cut for their morning snack or cut for their puzzle pieces. Because they’re not only too hard to cut, they’re also too hard for them to eat. Both, my Maltese and Shih Tzu love sweet potato treats, but they leave the dry ones behind. Since something made the Shih Tzu so sick that I had to spend a small fortune at the vet trying to make her better, she avoids all dry treats now and unfortunately that includes a lot of necessary nutrients. I hope these go back to being soft and moist the way they used to be!

A favorite healthy treat for my 6 pups!
My six dogs absolutely love these treats! I just ordered my third bag.I love knowing they are healthy and good for dogs with sensitive stomachs. The smell is great and reminds me a little bit of Thanksgiving. Each bag has several different sized treats so I can give my bigger dogs a bigger one and smaller dogs a smaller piece. They are wavy like a ruffle potato chip, but chewy, which is great because that means it takes my pups a minute or two to eat. They are a great price because my local grocery store sells the same type of treat in a smaller size bag at a higher price than these.
