Why Grow Charger Anaheim Pepper?

Premium Anaheim Pepper Variety The Charger Anaheim Pepper is a high-performing variety known for its large, smooth fruit, early maturity, and excellent plant vigor. Producing peppers that average 7½ inches long with a 1.5-inch diameter, Charger delivers uniform, somewhat flat fruit with thicker flesh than many traditional Anaheim varieties. Its mild heat level makes it a versatile choice in the kitchen, especially for roasting, where its size and flesh really shine. These qualities make Charger an excellent option for both home gardeners and market growers looking for dependable quality.

Early, Vigorous, and Reliable Charger Anaheim Pepper plants are medium to large in size and feature an outstanding canopy that provides excellent fruit protection from sunscald. The plants exhibit strong vigor and reliable performance throughout the growing season, along with resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus for added confidence in the field or garden. With earlier maturity, excellent fruit protection, and peppers perfectly suited for roasting, Charger Anaheim Pepper stands out as a dependable and productive choice for growers seeking consistency and quality.

Charger Anaheim Pepper Growing Tips

• When to Plant Peppers

Peppers are a "warm season" vegetable that should be transplanted in the garden once the risk of frost has passed in the early spring months. Start the seeds in a greenhouse or seed starting room 6-8 weeks before your intended in-ground planting date.

Compared to other vegetables, pepper seeds will take longer to germinate. It's not unusual for pepper seeds to take 7-10 days to germinate. Hotter peppers can take even longer. Be patient and keep your seed starting mix and the soil temperatures consistently warm. A heat mat is your best friend when germinating pepper seeds.

Once you have pepper seedlings with a well-developed root ball, give each pepper plant approximately 2' or more of space in your garden. Planting them close and allowing the plants to lean on one another helps support the plants as they grow. You can use cages or a Florida Weave trellis to support the plants as they develop fruits.

To learn how to use the Florida Weave trellis, watch this video.

• How to Fertilize Peppers

It's always a good idea to apply some pre-plant fertilizer to the soil when planting peppers. We like to add a handful Coop Gro organic fertilizer in the planting hole for each pepper plant. This ensures the plants have the right nutrients to put down roots in their new soil.

Fruiting vegetables like peppers will benefit from something called "spoon feeding." This process involves frequent fertilizations at lower concentrations, as compared to fertilizing them heavily once.

Once your pepper plants start to grow after transplanting, feed them every 2-3 weeks with a relatively balanced fertilizer. We like to sprinkle Coop Gro around the plants or make a liquid solution of AgroThrive Fruit & Flower and pour that alongside the plants.

• Harvesting Peppers

Peppers can be harvested at any size you'd like. If you're needing fresh peppers for a particular dish, don't hesitate to pick them smaller. Or you can let them grow to their full potential before harvesting them.

Many peppers will turn a different color as they mature. This is often when the peppers have the most flavor. In the case of Charger Anaheim Peppers, they'll start out light green and mature to a beautiful dark red color. If you can wait and let them turn completely red, you'll be rewarded with some delicious, flavorful peppers!

Reduces Mess, Lightweight, Strong Magnets, Fit is OK
Color: Black, Size: 58mm
I've been stubborn about buying a funnel - yet another coffee tool to simplify and optimize, right? But, it really does reduce the mess when using the WDT tool. The magnets are quite good, a different brand funnel (with magnets) wouldn't even stick to my portafilter. The fit is OK - it does slide around on my 58mm basket if I move the funnel. But, that hasn't been an issue because the magnets keep it in place. The shape is also a bit more tasteful than most of the generic funnels. Oh, and beware - if you're grinding directly into your portafilter basket (hands-free), the funnel may not fit into your grinder's portafilter-holder. This was the case with my DF54 grinder. Overall, I'd say it was worth the extra ~$4 USD over generic competitors.

Great coffee dosing funnel
Color: Silver, Size: 58mm
Normcore products seem to all be high quality. This funnel works very well. Strong magnets hold it securely to the portafilter. My only small complaint is I wish it was just slightly taller on this 58mm version. Just a few millimeters of additional side height would be a great advantage at times when the fine ground coffee decides to come out of the dosing cup in a clump. This current model still makes it much better than with no funnel and does the job quite well.

Very nice funnel
Color: Black, Size: 58mm
58mm fits perfect on a Pullman basket. Good quality as well. Be careful the magnets are strong the benefit of this design though is, it is a tamp through. Keeps the mess to a minimum transferring from dosing cup to portafilter, keeps your grounds in the basket during distribution as well.

makes it easy to pour into and wdt your portafilter without making a mess
Color: Black, Size: 51mm
Did you know there are 2 different types of dosing funnels, one with a inner collar/lip and one with an outer one? the normcore dosing funnel has an outer collar/lip, which means it secures to the outside of the portafilter basket, keeping it lined up. i didn't realize when i bought it, but the advantages to the outer lip is that there is no space or gap when the dosing funnel is removed (the inner lip takes up space along the edge of the basket, leaving a ring of space without coffee grounds). having the lip on the outside means, when you're done with your wdt, you don't have to do anything else besides tamp. at first, i was getting grounds all over the place when i was tamping because the grounds would push out to the sides as i was pushing down. i realized that the tamp (normcore v4 tamper) fit perfectly in the dosing funnel, so before i removed the funnel, i would lightly tamp with the tamper, giving me a little more space to place the tamper without worrying about grounds going all over the place. the magnets on this dosing funnel work pretty well, although, depending on your basket, it may work better than others. when magnetically attaching the funnel to different baskets, flipping the funnel upside down and shaking, holding the basket, the dosing funnel held pretty securely to the pressurized baskets that came w/ my delonghi, as well as the basket that came with my bottomless portafilter. the ims precision competition basket however, doesn't hold as securely. i thought at first it was because the lip of the basket was too big, but it turns out it's the same size as everything else. it turns out that while most of the top of the basket is flat, the inner edge is raised, maybe to help keep grounds from coming out. that raised bump on the top of the basket, is taller than the other baskets, so the metal that is to come in contact with the magnet is further away compared to the other baskets. still, it holds it securely enough while using it normally, so i won't be doing any modifications to the ims basket. the normcore also flares out at the top, making it wider. this helps with wdt-ing, allowing to work at more angles compared to the straight walled versions. it also makes pouring your grounds into the basket easier. although a little more expensive compared to other dosing funnels, i am very satisfied with how it makes it easy to wdt and tamp without making a mess. there was a little learning curve/trial and error to find the best way to use it, but i figured it out on day 2. would definitely consider buying another if i get a different machine with a different portafilter size

Good Upgrade over steel or plastic nice height
Color: Black, Size: 58mm
Pretty good quality. Not a perfectly aligned fit ( interior circle mostly matches up ) Be aware if you have a Stainless Steel portafilter like my premium ECM Synchronika's it will be a weak magnetic fit. Adequate, but not firm by any means. Quite the flare in this collar but the height is good. Much lighter than Steel, more durable than plastic. Half the price of a colored plastic collar with much weaker magnets.
