Perfect Privacy for Smaller Spaces

The Emerald Green Arborvitae gives you an elegant, low-maintenance, and perfectly-sized evergreen that provides year-round privacy and enhances any landscape.

This is a popular alternative to the larger Thuja Green Giant- growing up to just 10-15 feet tall-  making it the perfect solution for smaller yards or tighter areas.

  • Perfect Size: Reaching a manageable height of 10-15 feet and a width of 3-4 feet, it fits into all landscapes, offering full privacy without overpowering your space.
  • Vibrant Year-Round Color: Get rich green foliage all year long, even during the coldest months. This tree holds its color beautifully, creating a lush, vibrant backdrop to your yard.
  • Low Maintenance: It is drought-tolerant and virtually care-free. It resists most pests and diseases, too.
  • Cold Hardy: The Emerald Green Arborvitae thrives in growing zones 3-8, enduring even the coldest winters without browning or damage.

Not All Emerald Green Arborvitaes are the Same

Make sure you know what you're getting. Some other online nurseries sell "bare root" evergreens. That means there is not pot or soil to protect your tree's roots! This is risky, and often these types of trees don't survive the planting process.

Nationwide Plants only offers potted, well-rooted Emerald Green Arborvitae trees. This is very important for these types of evergreens- they're often a year or two older than the ones you can find at other places. This means that once they are planted in your yard, they are ready to take off with explosive growth the first year.

Be Careful when Comparing Heights

Most online nurseries measure a tree's height by including the pot and roots in their measurement. This means that an actual "5-6 ft. tree" might only be three feet tall once it is planted!

Nationwide Plants measures its trees above the ground. Rest assured that when you purchase a "5-6 ft. tree" from us, it'll actually be that tall when you plant it.

This is extremely important when purchasing privacy evergreens, because you need instant privacy now! Purchasing from other sites might cost you two or three years of privacy.

Ideal for Privacy, Even in Tight Spaces

The Emerald Green Arborvitae is well-known for its dense, compact foliage, making it one of the best options for creating a natural privacy screen, windbreak, or sound barrier. Whether planted in rows or as a specimen tree, it offers beauty and seclusion.

  • Perfect for Small Spaces: With its narrow profile, this tree is ideal for planting along property lines, around patios, or next to structures like fences and driveways. You can create a full privacy hedge without taking up too much space.
  • Dense Foliage: The thick, feathery green foliage provides a solid visual screen, offering privacy from neighbors, reducing noise, and even blocking wind—all while maintaining an attractive appearance.

Planting and Care Made Easy

At Nationwide Trees, LLC, we believe in making landscaping simple and rewarding. The Emerald Green Arborvitae is easy to plant and requires very little care to thrive.

  • Planting Instructions: For a privacy hedge, plant your Emerald Greens about 3 feet apart. If you're planting near structures like fences or buildings, be sure to leave 4 feet of space for proper air circulation and easy maintenance.
  • Soil and Watering: This tree adapts well to various soil types, as long as they’re well-draining. Water regularly for the first few months, then let nature take over—once established, it only needs occasional watering, even in dry spells.
  • Sunlight: The Emerald Green prefers full sun (6-8 hours per day), but can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates.

Low Maintenance, High Reward

One of the reasons homeowners love the Emerald Green Arborvitae is that it requires minimal maintenance.

  • Minimal Pruning: Unlike many other privacy trees, the Emerald Green doesn’t require regular pruning. However, if you prefer a neatly trimmed hedge, you can lightly prune once a year to maintain your desired height and shape.
  • Drought and Cold Tolerance: After the first year, this tree becomes highly drought-tolerant and thrives in both hot and cold climates, meaning less watering and no special winter care.
  • Resistant to Pests and Disease: You won’t have to worry about common tree problems like pests or diseases, as the Emerald Green Arborvitae is naturally resilient.

Versatile Planting Options

Whether you're lining your property or adding a decorative touch to your garden, the Emerald Green Arborvitae fits perfectly into any landscape design. Its versatility and adaptability make it a favorite among homeowners and landscapers alike.

  • Straight Row for Privacy: Plant 3 feet apart in a straight line to create a dense, green privacy fence. This method is perfect for those looking to quickly create a secluded backyard or block out street noise.
  • Staggered Rows for Full Coverage: For even more privacy and depth, stagger two rows of Emerald Greens. This method provides thicker coverage while using fewer trees.

History of the Emerald Green Arborvitae

Thuja occidentalis ‘Smaragd’ was discovered in Denmark in the 1950s. The cultivar name ‘Smaragd’ comes from the Danish word for "emerald," referring to its rich green foliage.

The plant was introduced by D.T. Poulsen Nursery, a well-known Danish horticultural firm. It is believed to have originated as a chance seedling or a naturally occurring mutation of Thuja occidentalis.

Since its introduction, ‘Smaragd’ (commonly known as Emerald Green Arborvitae) has become one of the most widely planted arborvitae cultivars due to its compact, pyramidal growth habit and year-round vibrant green color.

Inkjets have come a long way
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
Just a lot to like about this printer and nothing I don't like. Very capable for the price. I do mostly black and white printing, rarely print photos. (This will supposedly do a credible job of photo printing too but I haven't tried it). If you want professional caliber photo printing, you probably want the Epson 8550 which is similar to this, a bit more expensive, but does 6 color printing. If you are doing more like every day business printing the 15000 might be a better choice because it's built more for speed. The tank system means I can just replace the black because I use it a lot. The black ink tank is double size of the others and based on my experience so far, I think I'll easily get over a thousand pages on the standard-vivid setting which is very strong black but still relatively high speed printing. Given that the black ink bottles are under $30 I think the cost per page will be comparable to laser. The booklet/pamphlet printing can be complicated to work out with layers of PDF software and the Epson printer driver. But once you work it through, it's super capable. I've printed a lot of 12 x 18 double-sided for booklets and the paper handling has been flawless. (It can duplex automatically for 8 1/2 x 11 but for other sizes you have to manually duplex, which you can do by printing back/front or even/odd.) It's not as fast as a laser printer but it's pretty fast -- inkjets have improved so much.

Perfect Printer for My Small Business
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
I purchased the Epson ET-15000 for my crafting and apparel business and have been very pleased with its performance. The print quality is excellent, colors are vibrant, and the large ink tanks help save money over time. It handles larger print sizes with ease and has become an essential part of my workspace.

Nice large format printer which is what I needed
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
I make stained glass panels and needed a printer that I could make larger copies with. I also wanted one that I could manipulate my images with. This was my best option and I love the Eco-Tank printers. After reading the reviews I made sure to add a couple years of additional warranty for my peace of mind. Finding 13 x 19 paper that was affordable was a tough challenge. I found a bunch on FB marketplace and bought everything they had to offer. This printer was very easy to set-up. I just followed the instructions and then followed what was on my computer screen. At first I thought I would have an issue connecting to Wi-Fi but when it failed on the computer, I was able to go to the printer and do it from the control panel - Easy peesey. I have used it several times since filling, charging, and installing and everything works as it should. My husband has an Eco-Tank printer and I've wanted one since he got his. I love that the ink will last a very long time and that it will be cost efficient. I am not overly interested in photo printing so this was the perfect choice for my needs. The print quality is fairly good when comparing it to my old Canon and e that there are several paper trays and ways to make copies, especially the automatic feed and the larger scanner bed.

document feeder not working on first real use.
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
Serious reliability issues and concerns. We have owned the printer for about 1 month and printed a limited amount. For the first time today I tried scanning with the document feeder. I was scanning about 12 pages that should of been 1 document. The first page scanned and then stopped. I started the scanner again and it scanned about 5 pages and then jammed. The rest of the pages were a constant jamming/not feeding fiasco. I would run to the computer and hit scan, then run to the printer and manually push on the paper as hard as i could without the paper bending. if I pushed just right i could get a few pages through without jamming. I ended up with about 6 pdf's instead of one document and constant jamming in the paper feeder. Frustrating from a brand new printer and the first time using the paper scanner. There is a clicking noise when it scans. a few of the pages fed properly but the rest had to be forced. No obvious obstructions or other issues. I tried cleaning the rollers with no success. Then attempted to reach out to Epson support. The only support option I could find was an email form that put me in a captia loop after entering all the information so I had to start over on the ticket submission. No chat support, no phone number, brand new higher priced printer with serious build/reliability issues. Frustrating.

This is a great printer. I love it.
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
I’ve been using the Epson ET‑15000 for custom chip bags and ran into a huge issue with my original paper choice. The printer itself is great, but the Koala 30 lb glossy paper did not play well with the black ink at all. Even after letting my prints sit for a full two days, the black areas would still smear and come off on my fingers as soon as I started folding and assembling the bags. It was super frustrating and made it hard to trust my prints for orders. I decided to try Eshang high gloss paper instead, and the difference has been night and day. With the same Epson ET‑15000 and the same designs, the Eshang paper works like a charm. The black ink dries quickly, doesn’t rub off when handled, and holds up beautifully while I’m folding and sealing my chip bags. Colors look vibrant, the finish is nice and glossy, and I don’t have to worry about smudging anymore. If you’re using an Epson EcoTank like the ET‑15000 and struggling with black ink smearing on Koala glossy, I highly recommend switching to Eshang high gloss. It completely solved the problem for me and made my chip bag printing so much easier and more professional.
