Japanese Aucuba 'Crotonifolia' (Aucuba japonica 'Crotonifolia')

This extremely hardy, magnificent, and evergreen Japanese Aucuba 'Crotonifolia', often called the "gold dust" shrub because of its appearance, is a true savior for shadier rooms and terraces! It stands out with its large, leathery, and glossy leaves generously speckled with bright yellow and cream drops, creating an impressive, tropical, and very lush visual effect. Unlike many other variegated plants that require strong sunlight, aucuba is known for its amazing ability to shine and thrive precisely in shade and coolness! It is a large-potential, extremely patient and robust indoor and terrace plant that will add a bold, classic, and very lively natural accent to any interior or courtyard. It is an ideal, long-lasting, and easy-to-care-for gift for anyone who owns a garden or cooler spaces and wants a magnificent volume without special effort!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Partial shade to full shade! Here lies the main rule of this plant's beauty: unlike other variegated plants, aucuba does not need direct sun. On the contrary – strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly burn its beautiful leaves, leaving black spots.

  • 💧 Watering: Moderate. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. It is generally patient, but strictly intolerant of root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which quickly causes root rot. In winter, when kept in cool rooms, reduce watering significantly.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves coolness and fresh air! In our climate, aucuba is absolutely ideal for growing in large pots – in summer it is recommended to take it outside to a shady garden corner or terrace, while in winter it literally adores cool, unheated (but protected from severe frost) rooms, such as a cooler hallway, glazed veranda, or conservatory (ideally around 5–15°C). Normal, very hot indoor air in winter can be too warm (leaves may start to drop), so keep it away from heating radiators.

  • 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. The plant is toxic to cats and dogs. Ingesting its leaves can cause vomiting, lethargy, and digestive issues. Keep it out of reach of pets!

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • Cool hallway, stairwell, or glazed veranda (an absolutely ideal place for its safe overwintering and growing).

  • Shady summer terrace or balcony (where it will create a magnificent, jungle-like volume during the summer months, protected from direct sun).

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 45 cm

  • Pot diameter: 17 cm

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique yellow variegation may vary. It is important to know nature’s secrets: aucubas are distinctly long-lived shrubs. If the plant grows too large or leggy over time, do not hesitate to prune it firmly and strongly (preferably in early spring), which will stimulate bushier growth and the formation of new, dense shoots. Although in nature or warmer countries’ gardens they often bear red berries in autumn, remember – aucubas are dioecious plants, so to produce berries in a pot, both a flowering "male" and "female" plant must be nearby. When repotting, use nutrient-rich, humus indoor plant soil, not forgetting a good drainage layer at the bottom of the pot.

Works really well and it actually holds a lot

Great product I love that you can put it extended open or or not depending on the width of your silverware drawer on your kitchen or you can use it for tools. You can use it for nuts and bolts. You can use it for I don’t know paintbrushes if you want to. I don’t know if you really want to. I have one in my kitchen and I have one in my living room in my bedroom just to put pens and stuff like that in them. If you have a wide silverware cabinet drawers, you can extend it a lot more than what you see in my picture, but I was able to extend it way more than what was there before and I really like how it is.

This expandable silverware organizer made such a difference in my kitchen drawers. It sounds dramatic for a utensil organizer, but it genuinely made everything feel cleaner, more organized, and less chaotic. I love that it expands because it made it super easy to customize to my drawer size instead of awkwardly leaving unused space. The compartments are roomy enough to hold a lot without everything getting jumbled together, and I like that there are enough sections for silverware plus extra kitchen tools and gadgets. It helped me finally give everything a designated place, which is especially satisfying when setting up a new kitchen. Even though it’s plastic, it doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap. It feels sturdy once in the drawer, slides open smoothly, and has held up really well with daily use. I also appreciate that it’s lightweight and easy to wipe clean if crumbs or dust get inside. Overall, this is one of those simple organizational purchases that makes everyday life easier. My kitchen drawers look so much more put together now, and it’s nice not having to dig through clutter every time I need a fork or cooking utensil. Definitely worth it for anyone trying to organize their kitchen without spending a ton.
