Orange Vols Daylily

‘Orange Vols’ is one of many Oakes introductions. We named this daylily in honor of our local University of Tennessee Volunteers. Complemented by superb dark blue-green foliage, this big orange flower puts on an absolute show! A must for all Big Orange fans (and those who love orange daylilies in general!) and an excellent rebloomer.

This large 6 1/2″ bloom grows on scapes around 2′ tall in our East Tennessee garden. A beautiful mid season bloomer, we typically see it in here in zone 7 around the middle of June. If you are to our north, you’ll begin to see it a few weeks after we do. If you live to our south, you’ll likely see it a couple of weeks before us. Good rebloom ensures we get to see brilliant orange in the garden off and on throughout the season.

Orange Vols is a dormant variety which means it is best grown in gardens that get a sustained cold period in the winter, like those in zones 2-8.

We love this daylily paired with anything but it looks great when paired with yellow or gold, hot pink or purple. We, of course, love it especially when planted with near white daylilies. As University of Tennessee grads, we are partial with orange and white!
