The Akai Ryu variant is also known as Red Dragon and features a very long, dark red petiole (the section between the rhizome and trap). The traps are typically dark red or purple with hints of green.
Easy to care for, Venus Flytraps thrive in bright direct sunlight and moist soil (you can leave them in a plant tray with around an inch of water). They don't need to be fed – they naturally attract and devour spiders, flies, and other small insects.
During the winter, the traps will die back and typically the rhizome will be all that remains. When the warmer weather and longer days start, the traps will begin again and you may even notice that you have additional traps sprouting after dormancy or flowering.
