Pinto beans, scientifically known as Phaseolus vulgaris, are one of the most beloved and versatile legumes in the culinary world. These beige and speckled beans are renowned for their creamy texture and nutty flavor, making them a staple in various dishes, especially in Southwestern cuisine. Whether you're an experienced gardener or a novice looking to explore the world of homegrown produce, pinto bean seeds are an excellent choice for your garden.

Pinto Bean Basics

  • Appearance: Pinto beans are medium-sized, oval-shaped beans with a beige or light brown background and speckled or streaked maroon patterns. The name "pinto" is derived from the Spanish word for "painted," alluding to their distinctive appearance.

  • Flavor Profile: Pinto beans are known for their mild, earthy flavor with a hint of nuttiness. They have a creamy texture when cooked, which makes them an ideal candidate for a variety of culinary applications.

Cultivation of Pinto Bean Seeds

  • Planting Time: Pinto beans thrive in warm weather, so it's best to plant them after the last frost date in your region when the soil has warmed to around 60°F (15°C). In most areas, this typically falls in the spring.

  • Soil Requirements: Pinto beans prefer well-drained, loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH level. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.

  • Sunlight: These beans require full sunlight to grow successfully. Make sure they receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

  • Spacing: When planting pinto bean seeds, space them about 2-4 inches apart in rows with 18-24 inches between each row. This spacing allows the plants enough room to grow and receive adequate airflow.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the growing season. Beans are sensitive to drought stress, so regular watering is essential, especially during flowering and pod development.

Culinary Uses of Pinto Beans

Pinto beans are a versatile ingredient in the culinary world, particularly in Southwestern and Mexican cuisines. Here are some popular dishes and applications:

  • Refried Beans: Pinto beans are the primary choice for making refried beans, a staple in Mexican cuisine. These beans are cooked until soft, mashed, and then fried with onions and spices, creating a creamy and savory side dish.

  • Chili: Pinto beans are a common addition to chili recipes. Their mild flavor and creamy texture complement the bold and spicy flavors in chili dishes.

  • Baked Beans: Pinto beans can be used to make delicious baked beans. They are simmered with a savory tomato-based sauce, brown sugar, and spices, resulting in a classic American side dish.

  • Soups and Stews: Pinto beans are often added to soups and stews for their rich and hearty character. They absorb the flavors of the broth or sauce, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.

  • Salads: Pinto beans can be used in salads for added protein and a creamy texture. They pair well with fresh vegetables, herbs, and vinaigrette dressings.

  • Taco and Burrito Filling: Pinto beans make an excellent vegetarian filling for tacos and burritos. They are seasoned with spices and can be mashed or left whole, depending on the desired texture.

Pinto bean seeds are a fantastic addition to your garden if you appreciate the rich and earthy flavors of Southwestern cuisine. Cultivating these beans at home allows you to enjoy their versatility in a wide range of dishes, from soups to salads to hearty stews. With proper care and attention to their growing requirements, you can harvest a bountiful supply of pinto beans to elevate your culinary creations and savor the taste of this beloved legume.

I don’t mind a cliffhanger,
Format: Kindle
but I dropped at least one star because of the obnoxious gloating of the author after the cliffhanger. Seriously - I don’t understand making your readers angry because you’re smug and expecting them to keep reading your books. I was very definitely enjoying the series. Now I have a bad taste in my mouth and mixed feelings about continuing the series.

The series as a whole so far 5/25
Format: Kindle
I read reviews before going into this book and I don't agree with one of the more harsh ones on the main trigger she had. It is stated clearly in the forward and it wasn't as blase as it was made out to be. It definitely is touched on more and hasn't just been brushed off as the series goes I definitely would recommend reading it. It's a good series just be for-warned I like the series as a whole. The characters are awesome I adore the fmc shes cute and adorable but also a badass. Though there are a bunch of holes for her that I feel like just got left out. The guys are interesting and shout out to yall for not making Gage a dragon. I'm tired of the broody ones who don't wanna talk aboit what they are being Dragons. Ki is my favorite You can definitely tell if is written by 2 different people though because the phrasing just doesn't match up and wouldn't be something people that age says. And it flip flops between them. I feel like there's substance without substance. We are 4 books in and we don't really know much back story on literally anyone more than right under surface deep. There are definitely favorite MMCs which is kind of disappointing since some get shoved to the wayside. Specifically both of the best friends. They're basically useless and it's made obvious as the books go on. As well as all the men are ungodly self deprecating. I enjoy the plot line for the most part like I said I enjoy the series its different and refreshing. I do feel like the series is being dragged out though unfortunately. And the latest cliff hanger was just meh. So hopefully the next book is the last one.

Wow!
Format: Kindle
This book was awesome! Seraphina and her family have moved to a new town. Her family is a bit... odd. She grew up learning how to protect herself from people who might hurt her. Bloodshed is a daily occurrence with her brothers and parents during their practice sessions, and it’s all fun and games unless you need to hide a body. Sera’s family is very close, and she’s been homeschooled most of her life. But in this new town she is going to start regular school as a senior at the local high school. Unfortunately, things at her school aren’t all they seem to be. Or perhaps more than they seem to be. Sera has her own demons to deal with, and she’s terrified her new friends will learn about her weird family and other issues and drop her like a rock. It turns out they have their own secrets as well. This story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next one! This book is well written and well edited. The heroine is spunky and has a great heart and wicked sense of humor.

Fallen Angels, fae, vampires, oh my!
Format: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 | Spice: 2 (but a good slow-burn) • Main Characters: Huntyr and Wolf • I couldn’t wait to read this book; there was so much hype about it! And there was no doubt why. I fell in love with the characters and the plot itself. This book is mainly plot driven more than friction driven but it’s easy to follow along with. The characters are fun, easily understood. The main setting is at an academy where both the main characters are going through trials and building strength for the final test, The Transcendent. There are fantastic side characters as well. I loved the camaraderie between Huntyr and her friends. But we don’t like Lanson. 😆 We do have some plot twists that come into play throughout the book. Secrets and betrayal to be seen. I did adore Wolf and Huntyr’s relationship. It was a classic slow burn trope. They didn’t hit it off fast, but in time their feelings grew. I loved their banter, so sexy. Wolf is your next book boyfriend; Huntyr is your next vampire assassin independent bad-a*s female. Themes include loyalty, trust, self-discovery, a true slow burn romance. Side note: book ends on a angsty cliffhanger! • Emily, thank you for writing this awesome novel and I cannot wait to devour Book 2, Blood So Brutal! 😍 • Happy reading, my lovelies! xo

“My heart bows to you and you only, Huntress.”
Format: Kindle
3.5 🌟 This book popped up in my KU recommended reading suggestions and the synopsis sounded like what I was in the mood for. I'm so glad I took a chance on it. I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about it and ended up really liking it. I love when this happens. The main characters are likeable and I easily found myself rooting for them. There is a mystery element to each of their backstories that I enjoyed watching unfold and can't wait to get more of. Wolf, in particular, has me fixated. Love him. I found this to be an entertaining, addictive read with a plot that moves along at a good pace. It reads so easily I found myself very reluctant to put it down. Lots of twists and turns and the angst is there. A good set up for the next book to come, for sure. My issues with this book....the dialogue feels a bit juvenile at times and there is a repetitive over use of a particular word phrasing that I found myself giving the ole eye-roll to. There are, without a doubt, some pretty cliche moments that gave me a bit of the cringe. I think this could've certainly 100% benefited from more depth regarding the world building. Perhaps the world building was sacrificed to keep the pacing quick? Just a guess. Also, the lack of consistency of character for the FMC was really evident and so she feels quite illogical at times. Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read that hit the spot well enough for me. That ending certainly has me impatiently pining for book 2!
