The Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a deciduous conifer native to the US. Ideal for beginners and bonsai experts alike, Bald Cypress are fast growers that are quick to trunk up. This hardy species likes moist soil and can even be grown with the pot in standing water for much of the growing season. An excellent bonsai selection for those looking to create stunning forest plantings, flat-top styles, or striking formal uprights. 

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive.

Sizing Notes:

• Small Starts are 1+ yr old and in the shorter height range with narrower caliper. Most will not have branching yet.
• Regular Starts are 1-2 yrs old, but larger and taller. They have been threaded through a washer to produce lateral roots.
• Premium Starts are generally a year or more older, often with branching.
• Premium+ Starts are ground grown for 2 years through a CD or washers to produce excellent radial roots.
• Large Prebonsai are like the Premium+ Starts, but with thicker trunks that have been chopped low to produce taper.
