Seems good but not a direct replacement
This starter did work but it was not a direct replacement for the starter in my 1986 Malibu skier with 5.7 mercruiser direct drive. This starter is a mini-starter, which is great in that itโ€™s smaller and lighter but it meant that my starter bolts were too long and I had to add 3/8โ€ stack of washers under the bolt heads. The bracket that supports the front of the starter to the engine block was also not able to be used because the new starter is shorter, although with the lighter starter, that bracket is probably no longer necessary. First few starts have been fine.
