1960s a line dress Vintage 1960s Nina Ricci Silk Grosgrain A-Line DressThis vintage 1960s Nina Ricci dress is crafted in silk grosgrain, defined by its ridged surface, in the most beautiful shade of daffodil yellow. Nina Ricci was one of the key female designers on the Paris fashion scene between the two world wars she started her label in 1932. This vintage 1960s Nina Ricci dress is crafted in silk grosgrain, defined by its ridged surface, in the most beautiful shade of daffodil yellow. Nina Ricci was one of the key female designers on the Paris fashion scene between the two world wars— she started her label in 1932. With a very unique, amazingly executed construction, this dress is very much a representation of the shapes prevalent in Parisian Haute Couture during the 1960s. Deep pleats down each side, and an additional pleat in the back, create a sort of fly-back silhouette, almost subtly referencing a cape— Balenciaga constantly returned to similar shapes and called them "peacock trains."

I love that this dress can be dressed up and down for day or night— super versatile! It has a beautifully fitted bodice and an almost-Empire waistline (it hits above the natural waist), giving way to an A-line skirt (created by the aforementioned pleating). Note how the neckline, width of the shoulder, and cut of the arm hole subtly hint at a cap-sleeve, while still remaining sleeveless. These subtle design details set this vintage dress apart! Closes with a zipper down the back.

Measurements: This fits similar to a modern size Medium, but please refer to below measurements to be sure. (Shown clipped on a size X-Small to simulate the proper fit.)

Chest: about 37"
Waistband: 29" (ABOVE natural waist but ever so slightly lower than true Empire which is directly underneath the bust)
Hips are open
Length: 36.5" from shoulder to hem (extra fabric in hem to let out or could easily be hemmed... would be so cute more mini length too!)

Great vintage condition. With any questions about the specific condition or size, please email [email protected] for additional photos or measurements, as all sales are final.

Helpful and interesting introduction
Format: Paperback
This is a good quick introduction. A good supplement to a course on modernist literature or art. What is important is that it shows the Modernist project as something that encompassed art, literature, psychology, science, and politics--in other words, it contextualizes the movement.

So glad I bought this!
Format: Paperback
I am a lit teacher at an independent school, and was able to use this book to link the literature and the art of the modern movement. My students loved this project - they made their own artwork for a display at school!

Very good comprehensive introduction to Modernism
Format: Kindle
Very good comprehensive introduction to Modernism. Only not too helpful for me at the moment becasue I was looking for something more specific. Butler has this wonderful ability to make connections between the arts. He constructs a bigger picture of the Modern movement where many forms are interlinked, influenced and informed one another. He also has a longer book Early Modernism that might be more helpful if you are looking for indepth and moe detailed discussions.
