TentBox Lite XL Family  Rooftop Car Tent Features:

Double Skylight: The double skylight and large all-around windows mean elevated 360° views of your surroundings, the sunset, and the stars. All windows are fitted with fly-mesh.

Spacious but compact: The XL is huge inside and can comfortably sleep four adults. Despite this, at only 62kgs, it weighs less than the average person. The fold-up design means it's compact, and you'll barely notice it on your car.

5-minute setup: Setup is easy; a single person can open it. The travel cover is rolled up & stowed away after the form, and the rainfly poles live in a drop-down pocket. Setup time is even quicker in 'summer mode.'

Summer Mode: The rain fly can be removed to enter 'Summer Mode' for a more minimal look and quicker setup - as no poles are required. It's still showerproof; you must keep the windows closed if it rains.

Dual-layer mattress: The fitted dual-layer foam mattress provides a comfortable night's sleep. The waterproof cover makes for easy cleaning and can be unzipped and removed.

High-performance fabrics: Stormproof, breathable, and UV resistant. All seams are silicon taped, and all zips are YKK. The matte travel cover looks fantastic (and rolls away), and all windows come with a zippable fly-mesh.

Comfy touches: The fitted dual-layer foam mattress provides a comfortable night's sleep. The waterproof cover makes for easy cleaning and can be unzipped and removed.

Robust construction: It's rated for winds up to 39mph, thanks to the strong aluminum frame, high-grade stainless steel hardware, and heavy-duty hinge.

Premium Design, Special touches: The 'lay-flat' ladder rungs mean you can climb barefoot. The storage straps are great for hanging gear, and the internal pockets are great for small bits. 4x vents help promote airflow.

Tentbox Lite XL FAQs:

Will it work with my car?

There is a TentBox model to fit almost any vehicle - aside from the odd exception like convertibles and smart cars. You need a set of roof bars, which you can get for any vehicle. Our quick guide is a beneficial place to get started, but if you need more help, please reach out to our team of product specialists.

Tools and parts required?

All tools and parts needed for installation (other than roof bars) are included in the box.

What are the benefits of a TentBox vs. a ground tent?

Despite the name, a TentBox is more of a sleeping pod than a tent, and it’s just one step away from a campervan. You can sleep anywhere you can park your car, including on hard surfaces like car parks or driveways, and you don’t need to look for a flat grassy pitch. They are also super quick to set up and come fitted with a mattress; depending on the model you choose, you can also leave your bedding laid out inside when driving so that it’s already made for you when you pop it open. High off the ground makes for amazing elevated views from the windows and means you are well away from the cold, wet mud and creepy crawlies. The natural air barrier between the TentBox and the car roof is an insulation barrier and means you stay warmer as the heat is not sucked into the ground. You can leave a TentBox on your car all year round, which means you are ready for spontaneous adventures at the drop of a hat. Whether a weekend away at a campsite after a long week at work or sleeping on a friend's driveway after a dinner party, everything is possible once you have a TentBox. After the initial investment, it’s a cost-effective way to travel as there are many free places to park up for the night, and campsites are far cheaper than hotels.

Is a TentBox warm and weatherproof?

We’ve built all of our TentBox models to be stormproof; you will have no issues in even the harshest conditions, should you choose to go out in them! This is due to our high-performance fabrics and constriction quality. As for warmth, a TentBox is naturally insulated as it is raised away from the ground with an insulating air barrier. The foam mattress also adds a layer of protection, but a warm sleeping bag is advisable for colder temperatures. We’ve had TentBoxers adventuring to the arctic circle, and the feedback was great.

Will it fit a tall person who is over 6ft?

Yes! All of our TentBox models are over 7ft long—the Tentbox Lite XL has a sleeping footprint of almost 8ft long.

Can I keep a TentBox on my car all year round?

You can keep a TentBox on your vehicle all year round - lots of people do, and this is what it is designed for! The beauty of a TentBox is the instant, spontaneous adventure that it enables, so having it there ready to go is a big part of this. However, if you want to take it off (say during winter), that’s cool too. It can be stored on its side in a cool, dry place - make sure to dry it out before storage.

Practicality First
Color: Brown/Black, Color: Brown/Black
This is a simple, no frills watch from a well regarded brand. It has good water resistance, good durability, and high accuracy. If all you need is a way to tell the time that won’t fail you, buy this watch. As it’s solar powered, it doesn’t need to be wound or have a battery replaced or charged in the foreseeable future. This longevity and low effort maintenance was the most important feature for me, and part of why I chose this over a digital watch (along with digital watches potentially being bricked from firmware). I shouldn’t have to say this but obviously it doesn’t come out of the box charged and working - you need to leave it by a window or something for a day. After that, it will always work so long as you wear it outside every so often. The battery life is claimed to be 2 months but I’m not about to leave it in a closet for 2 months to test this. This is a newer model than the version I’d been trying to buy and it appears to have a more readable face as well as luminescent watch hands which are helpful for telling the time in the dark. It’s also nearly silent so ticking won’t be an issue. My only complaint is the watchband. It’s a serviceable quick release band, but it’s a bit on the short side and I wanted something of higher quality so I replaced it with a Hirsch 120mm/100mm watchband that actually fits and is altogether nicer than the out of the box band.

The simplest watch there is
Color: Khaki/Black, Color: Khaki/Black
I have a 7-inch wrist and I would like to think that it's the average size (judging from the pictures I have seen from other reviews.) The watch came in from Amazon with zero charge so I charged it for about an hour using a solar watch charger and that brought it back to life. I found that you could charge a solar watch from empty to full in about 5 hours. What I like about this watch is that it fits and feels right on my wrist, is not ostentatious, not flashy, and doesn't crave for attention. You could read the time very well outdoors and even indoors. Even in the dark, the lume is laid-back, but you could still tell the time from the triangular hour markers and the hour and minute hands of the watch. I also like that it has a screw-down case back. I like to tinker with my gadgets and a screw-down case back allows me easy access to the battery when it's time to be replaced. It's also solar-powered, has a 4-month power reserve, an easy-to-operate crown, and has sapphire crystal to boot! Fun fact: I found out recently that they made these watches in Timex's watch factory in Cebu, Philippines. By purchasing it from Amazon, it actually did a return trip back here in the Philippines! Update after a month's use: I changed the strap with a black NATO one and it looks even better with the matte finish of the case. The charge appears to remain strong. I'll probably notice the weird erratic second hand movement (the watch does this when the charge is about to drain) after 4 months. Until then, it's not time for a recharge.

Great specs but not much else.
Color: Khaki/Black, Color: Khaki/Black
The 36mm form factor wears small. Even on my 6-7/8" wrist. It could be that I've gotten used to the more modern 40-42mm case diameters on my other watches. Or that the 12mm thickness compared to its slender diameter gives it an odd proportion that makes the watch appear a bit smaller than it already is. But either way, it does feel small on the wrist. So if you havent tried this one on in person, be prepared for that. If you have very small wrists or prefer the aesthetic of smaller watches, then this size will be great for you. The value of this watch is difficult to pin down. In one sense, well the specs speak for themselves. And Timex has a proven history of reliabilty. But I ranked "value for money" at 3 stars, because at the end of the day you're paying $170 for a Timex. Something about that feels... weird. Timex doesnt have quite the heritage or prestige of say Citizen or Seiko - or heck even Casio for that matter. Its just a very difficult price to justify for a Timex field watch despite the great specs. I hoped in person the dial and hands would be at least slightly more impressive than they appear in the stock photos. But, no they are just as flat and blasé as in the stock photos. If you're looking for a no-nonsense solar field watch with all the specs this watch has and in this smaller 36mm case diameter, there are very few options out there. Especially under $200 (which is why I purchased it). So in that regard, I suppose its worth it. But at this price point I would like to feel a little more proud of whats on my wrist, in terms of aesthetics and design. And I dont really get that with this watch. I even think the regular quartz version of the the Timex Expedition at around $40-50 has more wrist appeal than this watch. I do like the style of the syringe shaped hands, generally speaking. But keep in mind that a Hamilton this is not. There isnt really the level of detail put into the design to dazzle the eye. Kind of a shame really because with these specs, this watch had a lot of potential to be a classic. Havent decided if Im going to keep it or send it back.

Best watch I've ever owned in my 60yrs
Color: Brown
I purchased this 36mm Expedition North Solar Field watch about one month ago, for roughly $150, and I couldn't be more impressed. When I took it out of the box the first week of January, it had no charge...because it was in a dark box in freezing temperatures. No problem, I shined light from a regular 500 lumen rechargeable flashlight on the watch face and the second hand started to move, erratically at first, but within a minute it was moving normally. I set up the flashlight 3 inches from the watch face and left it on for 3 hours, and it has been keeping perfect time ever since. I do physical labor and this watch looks just as good as it did when I got it a month ago. The low profile keeps you from banging the watch on everything you walk past, or reach for, and the black watch face contrasting with the white numbers and near white dials, makes it very easy to tell the time at night. Also, in the past I had owned quite a few expensive watches, however, my last watch was a Timex Indiglo that I put a Shell Cordovan band on, and the real leather band that comes with this watch is more comfortable than the shell cordovan. I only own 1 watch and wear my watch continuously, only taking it off when I shower, so I feel after a month I have a pretty good read on what this watch is. It is a very tough, reliable, and comfortable watch that I will be wearing for many years to come. In my opinion, the best value for a field watch on the market.
