If you're looking for a serious survival kit, then look no further.  The team here at Survival Gear BSO has hand-picked these top notch items to build a survival kit that covers the 9 of the 10 C's of survival, along with water filtration, has a few comfort items, and will stand up to the test of time - a Mora Knife, MIL-TEC Poncho, UCO Stormproof Matches, Zippo, Black Beard Fire Stick...and more!

Cutting Tool

The Mora Garberg stainless steel knife boasts a full tang, Scandinavian grind, heavy-duty 3.2mm thick 14C28N Sandvik Steel blade purposefully designed for bushcraft.  Mora made both the pommel and the blade spine, fire-steel ready.  The sheath is a black leather, belt-looped sheath with snap safety enclosure.

  • Blade Thickness: 0.125" (3.2 mm)
  • Blade Length: 4.3" (109 mm)
  • Total Length: 9" (229 mm)
  • Net Weight: 9.6 oz. (272 g)

Also in the cutting tools, we have the 14" German Style Hatchet by the Italy-based company Prandi.  Founded in 1969, these guys have been forging axes and hatchets for more than 50 years and have rapidly risen to one of the more well-known and highly trusted brands on the market today. Beautifully forged with a hickory handle.

Combustion Device

The classic American-made Zippo lighter! Standard Lighter perfect for any survival kit. These world famous lighters are made in the USA, feature wind resistant lighting and an unconditional lifetime guarantee. Regular Zippo’s measure 2 1/4" x 1 7/16". Due to shipping restrictions, we cannot ship the Zippo lighter fluid. This can be readily found at pretty much any local smoke shop or even your local gas station. You'll also have a single BIC lighter included with your kit.

Without a doubt you're also safe with a pack of matches, but not just any old pack of matches. The UCO Stormproof Matches come in a pack of 25 and stay lit for up to 15 seconds.

Short on tinder? Not to worry. You'll be getting the hottest fire starter on the market today. The Black Beard Fire Starter stick is made right here in the USA. It's windproof, waterproof, has a shelf life of 100 years, non-toxic, odorless, Eco-friendly, and you can start around 50 fires with this twisted rope pumped full of non-toxic waxes and oils.

Cover

The MIL-TEC® Ripstop Poncho is a versatile and functional piece of gear perfect for a wide range of outdoor activities. This poncho is essentially a reproduction of the old-school military poncho. Made from Ripstop polyester, it is tough enough to stand up to the rigors of the trail yet lightweight and compact enough to pack away easily.

You're also covered with the SnugPak Jungle Bag.  Lightweight and made of Travelsoft insulation to keep you comfortable, SnugPak has added a roll-away mosquito net, which can be zipped over the face, sealing the sleeping bag from all manner of biting insects. Packing up to the size of a coconut, you'll find the features to be tactful in such a small sleeping bag:

Weight: 950g/2.1 lbs.     Comfort: 7°C/44.6°F     Low: 2°C/35.6°F

Features: Mosquito Net, Antibacterial

Color: OD Green or Coyote Tan - we do our best to give you OD Green. Color is depending upon availability.

Container

You're set with the Pathfinder Canteen Cook Set.  Size is 5" x 3.5" x 8.25" and 304 stainless steel construction that includes a 39oz wide-mouth canteen; 25oz nesting cup; nesting stove; and ABS cup lid with stainless steel insert and silicone ring seal.

Cordage

There's no doubt that 550 lb. 7-strand mil-spec paracord is an absolute staple of anyone's pack.  With 100 feet of this paracord and a roll of duct - also included in the kit - you just might be able to build yourself a small house.

In addition to the 100' of paracord, we throw in a free backup piece of gear that can be worn on your person in case of an emergency. A trusty paracord survival bracelet supplies you with a few extra feet of much-needed cordage when you need it the most. You've got an emergency whistle, compass, and tiny ferro rod within the bracelet as well.

Cotton Bandana

The shemagh is one of the most underutilized survival tools.  Aside from protecting your head and neck from the elements, they can be used to filter water, create a sling, medical purposes, and because it is made of 100% cotton it could be used to make char cloth if necessary. Measures 42" x 42".

Cargo Tape

As mentioned above, we've added a roll of Duct Tape because you know the old saying - "If you can't Duct it, F*** it!"  Seriously, though, with too many uses to even name this stuff is a must-have for any survival kit.

Compass

NDuR provides you with a liquid-filled, clear base plate compass, which makes it great for map use. The compass is situated on top of a rectangular base made of transparent plastic so a map can be read through it.  These functional elements work collectively to establish decisive direction for both short and long distances.

Candling Device

We absolutely love to blow the socks off our customers when they see how powerful the Rechargeable LED Headlamp is!

Features:

  • Durable and Stretchable Headband
  • Adjustable Silicone Lamp Shell
  • Super Bright with 5 Light Modes w/ 350 lumens of brightness and 5 light modes
  • Easy One-Button Operation
  • Wide Range of Applications

A headlamp allows the user to have both hands free for more important tasks.  You'll find headlamps on the brows of rock climbers and campers, to sled mushers, utility workers, global peacekeepers, and emergency SAR teams all over the world.

We've replaced the 10th C - Cloth Sail Needle - with a water filtration device from Sawyer Direct.  The Sawyer Mini is small, extremely lightweight, and is rated for 100,000 gallons of drinking water.  This little guy weighs 2 oz., attaches to the included drinking pouch, standard disposable water bottles; hydration packs, or use the straw to drink directly from your water source.  The filter removes 99.99999% of all bacteria (like salmonella) as well as other harmful bacteria which cause cholera, and E. coli, and 99.9999% of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. These removal rates equal or exceed other filter options. EPA guidelines allow ten times more protozoa left in the water than Sawyer filters allow.

Your new Ultimate Survival Kit has a few comfort items as well.

Stay powered up, no matter where your adventures take you, with a Portable Solar Charger. Designed for the rugged outdoors, this charger packs a powerful 20000mAh battery, ensuring your devices stay charged during your hikes, camping trips, and survival scenarios.

Basic first aid was certainly not overlooked - a small, waterproof plastic First Aid box carries a few essentials for run-of-the-mill bumps, cuts, and bruises.

Throw all of this gear in the 30 Liter M.O.L.L.E. tactical pack with a cool Survival Gear: Bushcraft & Survival Outfitters logo patch on the front, and you're prepared for the next adventure that Mother Nature throws in lap!

Why write another review? There are already so many for this book.
Format: Kindle
It shouldn't surprise me that books that I like, by authors that I love, are extremely popular and well reviewed. This is the case with " . We might just as well ask, "Why write another book on prayer? The world is full of them." I could forego the review entirely, but I just can't do that because I love Annie (the author) so much and I cannot pass up the opportunity to say how much I appreciate her life and her work. While this isn't my favorite "Anne Lamott" book, it is certainly worth reading, if for no other reason than the entertainment value. Her words are so skillfully crafted and lyrical that it causes joy to spring up in my soul. This book will provide some insight into prayer for everyone; from the practiced, long-time prayer practitioner to the novice; from believer to agnostic. You will discover aspects of prayer that you had not appreciated before. This is not a technical treatise on prayer, but it did encourage me to pray and to be more faithful in prayer... to be more "in the moment" and to recognize the beauty that is everywhere around us. The day this came out I bought two copies, one for Kindle (which was formatted well and flowed smoothly) and the audio version (which I will listen to the next time through). I have several of Anne's other books in the audio version and I can say it is a real treat when she reads the books herself. Do not hesitate to buy this (or any other) book by Anne Lamott. You will be happily rewarded in the reading.

Understand your loss. Celebrate your gain. Live!
Format: Kindle
A quick look at what makes us human; our principal line of relationship to the Cosmos. Maybe not always reverent, but always livable and believable. This is a book, a primer, on how to deal with the mess of life. Written with enough seriousness and tongue-in-cheek humor to be readable and thought provoking.

An Invitation into the Heart of Reality
Format: Kindle
I love reading Anne Lamott. She helps me feel that it’s okay to be human. She helps me see that prayer is human. It’s the most natural thing you can do. And, really, everybody does it, whether they know it or not. In this delightful book, Ms. Lamott reflects on what she calls three essential prayers: help, thanks, and wow! Such human expressions! She invites us, the readers, into her perspective on life, infused as it is with both the mundane and the mysterious. There are times when it is even threatening. But we are not alone. We have each other, and we have God. (Or, better, God has us.). I don’t know that Ms. Lamott would want to be called an optimist, but she certainly sees the good in the bad (or, maybe after the bad). Life is both, she seems to say, but all is okay. So we ask for help when we’re wise enough (or desperate enough) to do so—both for ourselves and others. And we say thanks because life is full of reasons to be grateful. And there is so much beauty around us—and tragedy too—that we cannot help but erupt with wow! I urge you to read this book. Perhaps, as you read it, you will feel as I did reading it, that you are in a conversation with someone very wise and very compassionate and very real.

Another Thanks and Wow by Anne Lamott!
Format: Hardcover
I was first introduced to Anne Lamott's writing about 25 years ago when I read her book, Bird by Bird. It was a book about how to write and from that moment she became one of my favorite authors. Help, Thanks, Wow is a wonderful book that I have underlined and reread over and over again. Her writing has a voice that many of us can relate to. It's honest and you can feel her pain. She writes with humor to balance the good with the bad. Something that is so important to learn as we go through life. Her descriptions help you see, feel, and smell when she describes "autumn...the colors are broccoli and flame and fox fur. The tang is apples. The rot smells faintly of grapes..." She tells us how to ask for help when you can't do it all by yourself, but how important it is to say thank you, thank you, thank you and Wow for all the things you are grateful for. I loved when she wrote about how service to others is joy ,but how important it is to be kind to yourself. One of my favorite passages was this one, "This morning at six when I awoke, loneliness was sitting on my chest like a dental X-ray apron, even though I was buried in hairy dog love. Help, I am sad and lonely, and already it looks like today is going to be too long. I prayed...I did a kindness to myself, as I would have a troubled friend..." Her descriptions are all like this one and easy to relate to. I loved this book and have given it to friends who have then bought it for other friends. It is definitely a WOW!!!!

Not bad, but not my cup of tea
Format: Hardcover
After seeing Anne Lamott on TV, I was impressed with her and checked out this book on Amazon. The reviews were good, so I ordered it. I was a bit disappointed on receiving it, as I didn't like the shape of the book (too small) and I didn't like the type style (too hard to read). Then, I struggled to get into the book. I like to highlight insights in inspirational books, and I simply didn't find anything to highlight in this one. I think Anne Lamott is a lovely person and I understand how a lot of people liked this book. However, it just didn't bring any new insights to the table for me and it wasn't written in a way that I found compelling. The good news is, it wasn't too hard to finish, since it is short. I passed it on to someone I hope will enjoy it.
