The KarDiaN Chloroform CHCl3 Overdrive is one of those rare pedals that makes you think "but wait, all the stuff I had before is jerks compared to this?!" Well... there you go... basically we've summed it up! The CHCl3 is a big slap on the cheek of any guitarist who loves light, ultra-dynamic and high-quality overdrive. Many of you know the Timmy, a benchmark of its kind. And one of his clones the Janray. Well, take these last two as inspiration, change a lot of things, put the best components you can find in them (but really the best of the best), add to that an absolutely beautiful case and a typical Japanese realization, it's to say: superb (not welded with a trowel like the... "beep"). And you get, a must of its kind!

Let's start at the beginning, the chassis. Long story short, it's a killer. no more no less. The finish is magnificent, the attention to detail rarely seen for a product of this type (a pedal), everything is handmade, it's light, super well insulated and it hits once on the pedalboard.
Inside, how can you tell? Things are tough for the competition. It's simple, it's the best and it's beautiful. Yes, it's beautiful to look at it's so well done. From Texas Instrument, Amtrans AMRG resistors (1% tolerance, non-magnetic, brass tips, gold-plated oxygen-free copper leads...), Vishay capacitors etc... and top PCB. 4 buttons: Volume, Drive, Treble, Bass, 9VDC power supply. Come on, let's go!

On a Two-Rock Traditional, with a reduced gain and an almost flat EQ, we immediately understand that we are not among neuneus. From the first notes, it's ultra transparent, with crazy dynamics and just enough drive to have a slight breakup. We can clearly use the CHCl3 as a boost and stack it on another pedal (you can also hear it in this configuration on our excellent video). By raising the Gain and the volume, the silence is golden, the dynamics still enormous, and the presence of each note totally unique. Here each note is perfectly intelligible and very articulated. Even on complex chords, each note is totally detached, which contributes to a very percussive and intelligible side, especially on rhythmic playing. Fans of Bryan Adams, Keith Urban, pop-rock / classic rock, the CHCl3 is clearly made for you. The EQ is devilishly effective, it will allow you to adjust depending on the guitar or amp you are using. Of course, we recommend an amp with a large reserve of headroom to highlight the pedal as it should.

Humbuckers, single coils, everything goes on this superb KarDiaN Chloroform CHCl3 Overdrive. During our tests, we mainly used a strato Tyler (SSH), a Les Paul and an ES-335. All these guitars perfectly matched the CHCl3 which delivers an organic, hi-fi drive but with a lot of character and a sound signature of its own. A must of its kind, for aficionados of the very well-made high end and for those who don't want to sound like everyone else! :-)
