Aloe, like other succulents, should be placed in an area where it receives bright light and water only when the soil is completely dry. 

The skin on aloe leaves can be toxic if ingested in large quantities. This makes them not pet friendly. Younger aloe plants can be planted in arid reptile enclosures, but be mindful that the spines of Aloe vera leaves can become hard and sharp, though this tends to happen when the plants begin to outgrow their enclosures.
