Rheinland Astilbe is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. Especially in the warmer hardiness zones, be sure to plant these tender perennials where they'll be protected from the hot afternoon sun or completely full shade! Moist, well-drained soil is a key feature for growing a healthy Astilbe plant. Adding mulch is recommended in drier areas, to help maintain soil moisture and insulate the root system from heat and cold.
