Description
madhumalti flower seeds Rangoon Creeper Madhumalti (Combretum Indicum)The Rangoon Creeper (Combretum indicum), beloved across India as Madhumalti, is perhaps the most nostalgic of all tropical vines. It is famous for its unique "color changing" flowers that hang in heavy, fragrant clusters. Each bloom starts as a pure, virginal white in the evening, shifts to a soft pink by morning, and matures into a deep, crimson red by the second day. This natural gradient creates a stunning tricolour effect across the entire plant.
The Rangoon Creeper (Combretum indicum), beloved across India as Madhumalti, is perhaps the most nostalgic of all tropical vines. This natural gradient creates a stunning tricolour effect across the entire plant. Beyond its beauty, the Madhumalti is prized for its intoxicating, fruity fragrance that fills the air during summer nights. Whether draped over a village porch or climbing a modern apartment balcony, this vigorous vine is a symbol of the Indian summer, offering shade, scent, and a relentless cascade of blooms.
Light
▾
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. For the most prolific blooming, 6+ hours of direct sunlight is required. In extremely hot regions of Northern India, it appreciates a bit of afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorch, though the vine itself is remarkably resilient to heat.
Watering
▾
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during the growing season. In peak summer, it may require daily watering, especially if grown in containers. Once the vine is established in the ground, it can tolerate moderate dry spells, but its growth and flowering will slow down if left too dry.
Soil & Fertilizer
▾
Adapts to most soil types but prefers well-draining, fertile soil enriched with compost. Feed with a balanced organic fertilizer every 2 months during spring and summer. Avoid excessive nitrogen-heavy fertilizers, which can result in "all leaves and no flowers."
Yellowing Leaves (Chlorosis)
▾
Often a sign of iron deficiency or overwatering in heavy clay soil. Ensure drainage is excellent and try adding a handful of compost or a chelated iron supplement if the veins of the leaves stay green while the rest turns yellow.
No Flowers / Excessive Foliage
▾
Usually caused by too much nitrogen or too little sun. Move to a sunnier spot and switch to a phosphorus-rich fertilizer to trigger bud development.
