Our Imperfect Plants are healthy and ready to grow, but they show a little more character than those in our main range. These plants may have some cosmetic quirks such as old pest damage, slight browning, twisted or stunted growth, or a few damaged leaves. None of these issues affect their long-term health, and every plant is checked by our team to ensure it’s rooted and ready to thrive in your care.
By choosing an Imperfect Plant, you’re giving a perfectly good plant a second chance. It’s a simple way to grow your collection while helping us reduce waste and make our production more sustainable. Each one is unique, with its own story and charm, perfect for anyone who values growth in all its forms.

Philodendron rubrijuvenile, commonly known as the El Choco Red, is a climbing Philodendron with elongated, heart-shaped leaves that have a soft, velvety texture on the upper surface and a rich, wine-red underside. New leaves emerge with an intense burgundy-red tone before maturing to deep green. It is a hemiepiphyte that develops significantly larger, more dramatic foliage when given a moss pole to climb.
Origins
Native to the Chocó region of Colombia, Philodendron rubrijuvenile grows in wet, humid tropical forest at relatively low elevations. It climbs from the forest floor into the canopy, and its common name references the red colouring of its juvenile leaves and petioles.
Soil and Substrate
Our Monstera and Philodendron Premium Potting Mix provides a peat-free, well-draining blend suited to this species
