The Most Compact Skycamp Ever Built

1-2 person hardshell rooftop tent. Opens in 60 seconds. Sleeps like home.

The iKamper Skycamp 4.0 Duo is the newest generation of the tent that put hardshell rooftop camping on the map. Built for couples, solo travelers, and anyone running a mid-size truck, compact SUV, or crossover where mounting space is limited. The Duo is the smallest and lightest Skycamp 4.0 at just 119 lbs (tent + mounting brackets), designed to fit vehicles that larger rooftop tents cannot. Pop it open in 60 seconds, sleep on a real mattress above your vehicle, close it in the morning, and drive. No poles. No rainfly. No 20-minute teardown.

Sets Up in Seconds

Unlatch the shell, push it open, and the gas struts do the rest. Your tent is fully deployed and ready to sleep in before you finish unpacking your cooler. No poles to thread. No rainfly to wrestle. No guy lines to stake. When it is time to leave, pull it closed, latch it, and drive. This is why overlanders choose hardshell tents over soft shells, and the Skycamp is the tent that proved it.

Sleep Like You Are at Home

The Skycamp 4.0 Duo ships with a foam mattress (8.4 lbs) that stays inside the tent when you close it. No inflating, no rolling, no stuffing it into a bag every morning. An optional RTT Comfort LT mattress (11 lbs) is also available for upgraded support. The mattress sits on iKamper's ThermaSeal floor system: durable, insulating honeycomb aluminum panels with a layer of cork on top for warmth and sound dampening. Leave your sleeping bags and pillows inside when you pack up. Just push them toward the hinge side and close.

Premium Materials That Perform

Built with breathable, waterproof BreathWeave canvas (320gsm poly-cotton, recycled poly 35% / cotton 65% blackout canvas), a fiber-reinforced DuraCore shell, and cork-topped ThermaSeal flooring for comfort, protection, and all-season performance. The rainfly uses waterproof 90gsm recycled polyester 75D Rip-Stop with weather resistant DWR coating. Every material was chosen for durability in real-world conditions, not just marketing specs.

Field-Tested Across Every Terrain

iKamper conducted over 2,175 miles (3,500 km) of driving tests across various environments, including highways and unpaved roads, during the development of the Skycamp Series. Skycamps have since been part of countless customer journeys around the world, proving their reliability across deserts, mountains, forests, and coastlines. The 4.0 is not a concept. It is a tent refined through thousands of real miles on real rigs in real conditions.

Steady in Every Storm

The DuraCore double-layered FRP shell handles rain, wind, UV exposure, and temperature extremes without cracking, warping, or fading. The BreathWeave canvas manages moisture through breathability rather than heavy coatings, reducing condensation while staying waterproof. 4-season rated: protection from rain, wind, and UV exposure whether you are camping in summer heat or winter cold. The integrated HVAC pass-through lets you run a heater duct into the tent without cracking a window open to the elements.

What Changed in the Skycamp 4.0

The 4.0 is not a minor refresh. iKamper redesigned the shell profile, upgraded the materials, and added features that previously only existed on their premium DLX model. Here is what is new compared to previous Skycamp generations.

DuraCore FRP Shell: Double-layered fiber-reinforced plastic that resists cracking, warping, and UV exposure. The dual layers create built-in air insulation, making it quieter and more condensation resistant than single-layer shells.

BreathWeave Canvas: 320gsm poly-cotton (recycled poly 35% / cotton 65%) blackout canvas. Manages moisture through breathability rather than heavy waterproof coatings. Better airflow, lower condensation risk, and four-season waterproof protection.

ThermaSeal Cork Floor: Durable, insulating honeycomb aluminum panels with a layer of cork. Insulates, dampens sound, and feels warmer underfoot than bare aluminum or plastic. Previously a DLX-only feature, now standard on every 4.0.

Integrated LED Lighting: Dimmable White, Amber, and Red modes (DC 5V). Red mode preserves night vision. No need to hang a headlamp or lantern.

Power and HVAC Pass-throughs: Purpose-built ports for running a heater duct or electrical cable into the tent without leaving a window cracked open. A detail that matters for cold weather camping and extended trips.

Larger Doors and Windows: Bigger openings than previous generations for better airflow, easier entry and exit, and more natural light. Plus 75 square inches of additional usable interior space without changing the closed footprint on your roof.

Vehicle Compatibility

The Skycamp 4.0 Duo is the most compact Skycamp, designed specifically for smaller vehicles where full-size rooftop tents do not fit. Your crossbars need a minimum distance of 22 inches apart (maximum 41 inches). The Duo fits compact crossovers, compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs, and mid-size trucks with a cab rack or bed rack.

The Quad is the full-size option for families and groups who need maximum sleeping area. At 84 5/8" x 83 1/8", it is nearly square, giving everyone room to sleep comfortably. The tradeoff is weight (157 lbs) and the 185 lb minimum dynamic load requirement, which means you need a robust rack or crossbar setup. The Quad also has 1.5" more headroom when open (48" vs 46 1/2") compared to the Duo and Trio.

Pros

  • Lightest Skycamp 4.0 at 119 lbs (tent + brackets), fits compact vehicles other Skycamps cannot
  • 60-second setup and teardown with gas struts, no poles or rainfly
  • ThermaSeal cork floor, integrated LED (White/Amber/Red), and HVAC pass-throughs now standard (previously DLX-only features)
  • BreathWeave 320gsm blackout canvas manages condensation better than synthetic tent fabrics

Cons

  • At $4,250, this is a premium rooftop tent. If budget is a concern, browse RTTs under $1,500
  • 1-2 person only. If you need room for a family, look at the Skycamp 4.0 Trio or Quad

Frequently Asked Questions

What rack do I need for the Skycamp 4.0 Duo?

You need crossbars or a rack with a crossbar distance between 22" and 41" apart. The Duo uses iKamper's Mounting Brackets 3.0, a universal mounting system that fits most crossbars from Prinsu, Front Runner, Thule, Yakima, Rhino-Rack, and others. If you do not have a rack yet, call us and we will help you pair the right rack with this tent for your vehicle.

Can I leave my bedding inside when the tent is closed?

Yes. The Skycamp 4.0 is designed with space to store sleeping bags and pillows inside when closed. Push your bedding toward the hinge side (back left corner) before closing. The optional air mattress fully deflates for even more storage room. Your goal is to close the tent without strain on the latches.

How does the Skycamp 4.0 Duo compare to the 3.0?

The 4.0 Duo is a dedicated 1-2 person size (the 3.0 was one-size-fits-all at 4-person). Key upgrades include the DuraCore double-layer shell, BreathWeave 320gsm blackout canvas, ThermaSeal cork floor, integrated LED lighting (White/Amber/Red), power and HVAC pass-throughs, larger doors and windows, and 75 square inches more usable interior space. The Duo is also narrower than the 3.0, making it fit compact vehicles and shorter crossbar setups that the 3.0 could not accommodate.

Is the Skycamp 4.0 Duo good for winter camping?

Yes. The Skycamp 4.0 Duo is rated for 4-season use with protection from rain, wind, and UV exposure. The DuraCore double-layer shell provides built-in air insulation. The ThermaSeal cork floor insulates against cold from below. The BreathWeave canvas manages condensation while staying waterproof. The HVAC pass-through lets you run a heater duct into the tent without cracking a window. For serious cold weather camping, pair with a quality sleeping bag rated for your expected low temperatures.

So sweet
Format: Kindle
It’s so unexpectedly sweet that it sneaks up on you. Each character is so unique and charming. I love the openness and honesty among their pack. It really blows me away how wonderful this omegaverse trope plays out. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Needs editing
Format: Kindle
Cute storyline and promising characters, but the lack of editing is painful to read. I would love to read an edited version.

A good read
Format: Kindle
A good read, just fluffy cuteness, no antagonism. I like all the characters. It could have used another round of editing however, glanfds being one error that cracked me up, and my personal pet peeve was that the author kept using the word fill instead of feel, which I promise you are not interchangeable haha, but it's definitely better than the majority of books I read on here mistake-wise.

amazing
Format: Kindle
Knot the Bride was a fantastic read! The characters were all amazing and well-developed. It was easy to like them all. Sophia, Luca, Nick, and Gavin were all perfect for each other. It was such a charming story that had me hooked the entire time. I did wish there were POVs from Luca, Nick, and Gavin but it was still an amazing book without it. I am excited to read the next book in the Willowside Omegaverse series! This is definitely a must-read for fans of omegaverse romance!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3 Star Read,
Format: Kindle
This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.
