NOTE:  Fire 10 x 12 with Front Screen Door, side windows and back window. Different features than standard wilderness tent.  See photos below.

THE 10 X 12 FIRE TREATED TENT WITH FRONT SCREEN DOOR HAS THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS TO OUR STANDARD WILDERNESS TENTS.

Photos of modifications are at top of page in photo section of our standard wilderness tents. Modification photos are at the end.

Front door has an inverted /upside down T door zipper. This allows one side of the door to open while the other side remains totally closed. In this manner, the tent sod cloth stays in place on both sides of the door.  Especially beneficial if a stake in floor is used.  Water and bugs cannot enter under the front of the tent as the sod cloth  remains in place when the tent doors are open.

No vinyl corners. Reinforced canvas corners.

Adjustable heavy straps instead of stake loops around the bottom of the tent.  Adjustable straps allow tightening the stake loop as necessary instead of repositioning the stake.  Adjustable straps are very beneficial if tent is to be used on a platform.  If requested, we will provide corresponding buckles to secure tent to platform.

Storm flap door buckles are metal with adjustable straps to secure storm storm flap.  It should be noted that the storm flap is a free feature that protects the door zipper from rain and ice.

Back window is a 35" triangle with screen.

  • FREE BACK WINDOW OR BACK DOOR. A $50 option for some tent companies.

  • FREE REINFORCED EAVE WITH WEBBING ENTIRE LENGTH OF EAVE.

  • FREE D RINGS SEWN INTO EAVE WEBBING. Much stronger than grommets pressed into canvas.

  • FREE DOUBLE LAYER OF CANVAS ON RIDGE. A major wear point that is reinforced.

  • VINYL SOD CLOTH. Acts an air seal and prevents canvas from touching any rain water which will wick up the canvas wall.

  • TENT BAG. Oversized to insure your tent fits in it.

  • RIDGE OPENINGS FOR LODGE POLE. Some hunters use lodge pole pine to make a tent frame when packing in to avoid hauling a heavy metal frame on horses.

  • FRONT ZIPPERED DOOR, YKK #10. Always insure your tent has YKK zippers or you might have zipper problems when you are camping.

  • 200' OF ROPE AND 20 TENSIONERS that tightens the tent eave rope connecting to tent stakes.

WILDERNESS CANVAS IS ARMY DUCK - DOUBLE FILL. The highest quality canvas made.

Canvas is made by weaving threads together, crosswise and lengthwise. The Army Duck canvas has 2 threads twisted together making 1 thread. These double twisted threads are woven into the canvas going both crosswise and lengthwise. Twisting 2 threads together into 1 makes Army Duck canvas stronger more durable and also allows the canvas to breath better.

A 10.1 oz Army Duck wall tents are just as strong as a 12 oz Dual Fill.

WILDERNESS GLAMPING TENTS ARE THE TOUGHEST AND STRONGEST TENTS AVAILABLE.

Double layer of canvas on ridge. Eaves reinforced with webbing. Steel D rings on eaves instead of grommets. NO OTHER TENT HAS THIS ADDITIONAL REINFORCEMENT.

TENT FRAME ANGLE KITS DO NOT INCLUDE FRAME POLES
6' SIDE WALL OPTION
  • 6' side walls provide much more headroom and usable tent space.  6' walls allows a person to get next to a wall without hitting your head against rafters or canvas roof.
  • Some companies only have 4'7" sidewalls which severely restricts how much space you can actually use.
  • Strongly recommend you ask your suppliers the finished height of side walls before purchasing so you will not be surprised or disappointed upon delivery.
  • 6 Foot option only available on FIRE, water and mildew treated tents

See ANGLE KITS for information on how to easily build a tent frame from steel conduit.

PURCHASING TENT FRAME ANGLE KITS and then purchasing 1” inside diameter, galvanized steel electrical conduit at any hardware store is the most economical approach to purchasing a frame. Normal savings $250-$450 depending on the size of canvas tent and frame.

ANGLES THAT ACCOMMODATE 3/4" STEEL CONDUIT ARE NOT RECOMMENDED.  3/4" conduit weighs about half as much as 1" conduit.  Consequently, it is only about half as strong as 1" conduit and can't take much of a snow load.

CUT LIST WILL BE PROVIDED FOR CUTTING STEEL CONDUIT FOR FRAME.

WILDERNESS TENT AND ANGLE KIT special includes the tent and either a 3 rafter, 4 rafter or 5 rafter angle kit depending upon size of tent ordered.
Making a tent frame using steel conduit takes 60-90 minutes depending on size of your tent. Steel conduit is readily available at all hardware stores including Home Depot and Lowes.  Only tool required is a hack saw or pipe cutter.  All power tools that cut metal will also work.

ANGLE KIT UPGRADE RECOMMENDATIONS

12 x14. 4 Rafter angle kit vs standard 3 rafter.  RIDGE SUPPORT.  When you use a 3 rafter angle kit there will only be 1 rafter in the middle of the frame supporting the entire roof.  A 4 rafter angle kit has 2 rafters evenly spaced in the middle of the frame supporting the roof.  You get twice the roof support with a 4 rafter angle kit frame.  A much better system especially for snow loads.

16 x 20. 5 Rafter angle kit vs standard 4 rafter. CONDUIT UTILIZATION and RIDGE SUPPORT. The 4 rafter or 5 rafter angle kit both require the same amount of conduit, 21 pieces. A 4 rafter angle kit on a 16 x 20 requires 9 cuts of 6' 6" for the ridge and 2 eaves frame poles. Requiring 9 pieces of 10' conduit. A 5 rafter angle kit has 12 cuts at 5' for the ridge and eaves requiring only 6 pieces of conduit. A much better system especially for snow loads.

16 x 24.  6 Rafter angle kit vs 5 rafter. CONDUIT UTILIZATION and RIDGE SUPPORT.  A 5 rafter angle kit requires 26 pieces of conduit while the 6 rafter only requires 25.  A 5 rafter angle kit on a 16 x 24 requires 12  pieces of conduit for 6' cuts. A 6 rafter requires 6 pieces of conduit with 4' 10" cuts. A much better system especially for snow loads.

PURCHASING TENT FRAME ANGLE KITS and then purchasing 1” inside diameter, galvanized steel electrical conduit at any hardware store is the most economical approach to purchasing a frame. Normal savings $250-$450 depending on the size of canvas tent and frame.

FIRE RESISTANT CANVAS: Meets CPAI 84 fire retardant code. If a tent is not specifically treated for fire resistance it will burn quickly. Fire Resistant canvas will only burn when there is a flame source present on the canvas. When you remove the flame source the wall tent will stop burning. However, there is no wall tent made that will not burn.

Click SLEEPING CAPACITY for each size of tent. It is sometimes difficult to determine the correct size required and hopefully sleeping capacity info page will be of some assistance.

Extended fly will have stove pipe opening with a tie down flap in the extended section as some people use a stove for cooking outside the tent.

When you receive your tent, set it up, and completely wet it down. Especially on the seams, both inside and outside seams on your tent. Wetting down your tent will cause the canvas to shrink and help close the thousands of needle holes in your tent.

FLY IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

Fly is a protective tarp, extend the life expectancy of your tent. Also, there are thousands of needle holes in your tent and occasionally a needle hole does not close when the tent is wetted down. The only way to insure your tent does not leak is to put a fly on your tent.

I price my fly's approximately 25-50% below my competitors to encourage  individuals to use a fly to protect their tent roof.

EVERY MONTH WE GET CALLS FROM CUSTOMERS WHO BUY A FLY AFTER USING THEIR TENT.  Normally customers have spark holes in their tent roof. Or dirt, pitch and tar on their roof that won't come off. A fly is strongly recommend at the time of purchase to avoid possible roof issues.  And most importantly, to increase life expectancy of your tent.  - Rich

FLY ADVANTAGES- SUMMARY

  • SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES LIFE OF TENT.  The roof is the first part of a tent that normally fails.
  • Prevents stove spark burn holes in roof. It is much easier and cheaper to replace a fly, if necessary, than a tent.
  • Provides another moisture barrier to prevent leaks.
  • Protects the cotton canvas from UV rays. Put a cotton shirt outside during the summer and see how UV rays destroys the cotton.
  • Keeps roof clean. When camping under a tree, a tree rains down dirt during rain storms.
  • Prevents pitch and tar getting on the roof. Removing tree pitch and tar requires a harsh detergent which destroys the roof water, mildew and fire treatment. Then you will have leaks in your roof.
  • Fly provides 1 foot overhang on each side of tent by carrying water and snow 1 foot away from side wall.
  • Water and snow slides off fly quicker than canvas roof as the fly is completely smooth.
  • Provides some insulation value when there is an air gap between fly and roof.

SHIPPING BAGS for floors, fly, extended fly, porches and cook shacks options are not large enough to be used for storage bags.

RECOMMENDATION:  ALWAYS KEEP YOUR TENT ROOF AND FLY TAUT SO WATER CAN QUICKLY BE REMOVED FROM YOUR TENT.  Water can collect on the roof in an "eave trough" which is  a low area just before the sidewall created by a not tight roof or loose fly.

Canvas should be very taut on a tent frame, especially, if set up for extended periods of time and a fly always used.  Fly should also be tight to avoid water in an eave trough.  Water will eventually go through the fly if saturated for weeks.  Canvas saturated in water will rot and mildew regardless of water mildew protection applied. There is no warranty for eave rot.

OPTIONS AVAILABLE

At the bottom of this page are OPTION PHOTOS and explanations. Options include porches, cook shacks, fly's (protective tarp), floors.

TENTS ON PLATFORMS

I strongly recommend you read my recommendations regarding placing wall tents on a platform.
I strongly recommend tent frame leg supports on platforms. which are screwed onto the platform. Wood platforms are smooth surfaces compared to the ground. You don't want to have tent frame legs slide off a platform during high winds.

Leaving a tent set up for extended periods of time. Water can collect on the roof in an "eave trough".  The trough is the area at the bottom of roof just before the side horizontal tent frame poles. Canvas should be very tight on frame if set up for extended periods of time and a fly used.  Fly should also be tight to avoid water and snow in an eave trough.  Canvas saturated in water will rot and mildew regardless of water mildew protection applied. There is no warranty for eave rot.

TESTIMONIALS

My neighbor recently bought a 16 x 24 glamping tent package from you and I am totally impressed with the quality and workmanship. I was told you had the best customer service on the internet. Package includes the tent, wilderness 5 deluxe stove, rain fly and complete 6 rafter frame. Neighbor also recommended the in line spark arrestor for ease of cleaning, fire mat under the stove, floor and a couple heavy duty coat racks. Jackson.

Hi Tyler.  It was good visiting with you and thanks again for helping us pick out the perfect tent for us.  Please pass this along to the owner. I purchased a 14 x 16  with an 8 foot awning from you guys a month ago.  We are very happy with our purchase and it has met all our expectations.  We recently spent 11 nights in our tent in Missouri and weathered through a tornado and 8 days of wet rain.  We were at an event with 300 people camping in tents.  Our tent was one of the talks of camp and we hosted many people for coffee around the fireplace.  I have about 5 individuals that would like to go ahead  and buy a tent as well.  We are looking to purchase two more tents for us this spring and then  the organization is talking about starting off with 10 tents for a homestead project.  Just FYI, we will be going to these events about 2 times a year.   Thanks again, Shawn.

Tyler, thanks so much for your amazing customer service!  It was a pleasure dealing with a professional company who obviously stresses top notch service. I had been trying for a month to even get a response from another company.  I wish I had found your company first from the beginning.  If there is a link for me to leave a review please send it to me.  Thanks again, Kyle.

I didn't have an opportunity to inspect my tent prior to our trip. I just bought the 1"EMT electrical metal tubing conduit for my tent frame angle kit. I cut the EMT steel tubing per your instructions. The frame was a perfect fit when I set up camp.  I must say I am very impressed with the quality and the double stitching. The thick webbing on the eaves and the steel D rings is unbelievably strong. To top it off there was a double layer of canvas to reinforce the ridge that I didn't realize was a standard feature. All in all the wilderness is the most reinforced and highest quality tent I have ever seen. Thanks again, Pat.

Entertainment for You --- Fun for your Dog
Size: 4 INCH, Pattern Name: IQ TREAT BALL 4"
I had seen a friend with this toy for her dog. I asked if I could try it for my two dogs (mini schnauzer & chihuahua/pug mix). My dogs loved it! The only way they'll stop playing with it is if you pick it up or when they finally realize there aren't anymore treats available. I now own two of the 5" (which is really 4" in diameter) and one 3". If I know I'll be gone for a while, I'll load up all 3 and they'll have more than enough food/stimulation while I'm out. I am so satisfied with these toys, I looked up the manufacturer and purchased the Large Buster Food Cube. Why? -Simply for variety. The Buster doesn't get quite as good of a following from my dogs as the ball, but it has its own advantages. The chips seen in another reviewers photo(s)..., this happened to me as well. When inspecting the three IQ Balls I have for my dogs, no chipping of the small fins as shown in the photo(s) changed the integrity of the ball. The chips will most likely happen to everyone if your dog is even somewhat of a chewer. I'm not putting these on display for family/friends to come see. They're dog toys. If your dog is a fierce chewer, only use the ball as an entertaining feeding option. The Buster Food Cube could be used permanently with the most determined chewers. Please don't be swayed by those photos. I was a little concerned when I had seen them prior to ordering. Now, I know how inconsequential those chips are and how much those photos make it appear like a potential deal-breaker. Tennis balls and the Kong toy used to be my favorites for my dogs. Now the Treat Ball and Buster Food Cube are the favorites. Treat Ball - Pros ----------------- -More fun for my dogs than the Buster Food Cube -Adjustable food dispensing - you can set it to be depleted quickly, the cube will take a lot longer, relatively Buster Food Cube - Pros ------------------------ -Holds more food -A bit more challenging than the ball -Very quiet compared to the ball (you'll experience a constant rolling until the ball crashes into your wall, furniture, etc. - nothing harmful to either) -Rarely, if ever does it get stuck (with the ball - even the larger size - you may find times when your dog has given up because it has been lost under an accommodating piece of furniture; the cube is truly too large to get trapped) -More durable than the ball - the most determined chewers will not have success destroying this toy *** If OurPets would ever make a larger sized ball (Buster Food Cube diameter), I would buy that in a second. This would keep it from being stuck as often and I would like the increased food capacity, as the cube has.

great
Size: 4 INCH, Pattern Name: IQ TREAT BALL 4"
This ball is great for my two and a half year old border collie mix. I give his breakfast through this ball, and it keeps him occupied for 20 minutes total. The ball won't fill up a whole cup of kibble, so I have to fill it up two times. This ball takes him longer and tires him more than the Tug a Jug, which only takes him about five minutes to empty. As he empties the ball twice, he will pant and go lap on some water. It's good to see he's getting some kind of work for his food as opposed to just chomping it down from the bowl with no effort. The only downside is that a lot of times the lid gets loose even if you close it pretty secure. One time the lid came off completly as my dog was playing with it, exposing all the kibble. To prevent this I used some strength to close the lid very tight, but later I could not open it back up! It took a grown male to open it back. My dog does not chew on this ball due to the awkward shape and material(hard plastic). I and my dog have dropped this a couple of times on both laminate and wood floor, but I see no crack on the ball so far. It seems durable. Good ball to make your dog work for his breakfast or dinner. UPDATE: My dog still loves this toy. With the difficulty setting set to max, it is the slowest treat dispensing toy in my collection(buster cube, tug a jug, kong wobbler). That's good, it lets him burn off more energy. Also since the ball doesn't hold a full cup of kibble, I would pour half and the rest on his regular food bowl. I place the ball next the the bowl and give a release "OK!". Guess where my dog goes? He runs off with the ball! Even after realizing that there is food in the bowl (He puts his nose inside the bowl for a second and then goes to the ball) where he could just eat it, he perfers to get his food from the ball.

3 considerations for IQ BALL. FUN, DURABILITY & COST to TIME VALUE
Size: 4 INCH, Pattern Name: IQ TREAT BALL 4", Size: 4 INCH, Pattern Name: IQ TREAT BALL 4"
3 Points to consider buying IQ BALL : FUN, SAFETY & COST. IQ BALL out of the well packed box: It is a good toy depending on your dogs' SIZES, TOY DESTRUCTION QUOTIENT & Cost to PlayTime ratio 1) FUN--Great fun for playful dogs who like chasing balls & learning treat rewards for rolling it. 5 Stars FUN & for puppies learning to problem solve. Fun will depend on dog's size, especially if they're mouthy (chew-wise) & how big they open--can the dog get the ball in its mouth to break it? Overall our experience is FUN=5 Stars 2) SAFETY: Our 5 month, 22" high, 30# Australian Pup spent 2 hours of continuous play, first time w IQ Ball. He could not hold or carry it in his small puppy mouth...this is not a problem but a good thing. Larger dogs wont necessary get the pt. if all they do is carry it around. Also---Reckon, any larger dog e.g. Germ. Shep., Rottie., Malamute & esp. Staffordshire Bull, Pit Bull Terriers, or larger mouth dogs could easily crush this lightweight plastic into shattered sharp bits. If the dog is easy going on toys it may be okay. Otherwise I'd worry about it breaking in the dog's mouth. 3) Cost to Time ratio is likely very good if, dog is not too "mouthy" with their toys. Rate it at a 3 overall for Med. to Large Dogs & 5 for pups & smaller dogs. Cost not worth it if dog crushes it in a minute. Our little guy just started playing with IQ Ball again 5 hrs. after unpacking it. At first he chased it around the house for almost 2 hrs. So Cost/Time used ratio depends on your dog's food motivation & love for balls that toss kibble out at various intervals. Set-up's a breeze. Delivery opening is adjustable, depending on kibble size & how much you want to reward the dog. We set delivery hole wide open the first 15 min. Then adjusted it smaller as he figured out, the more I roll this ball, the more treats come out. SAFETY CAN BE AN ISSUE BUT OVERALL, WITH CERTAIN DOGS & DOG SIZE, THIS IQ BALL IS A GOOD 4 STARS. 1 other caveat: uneaten kibble left on floor can be a calling card for little "Mickies" who just LOVE dog kibble. We vacuumed a few times already.

Great for keeping dog busy and for rescues
Size: 3 INCH, Pattern Name: IQ TREAT BALL 3"
We got our dog from a shelter -- we don't know much about her history, but we imagine that she has never been socialized to play with toys because she has no interest in objects whatsoever. We've tried squeaky toys, chew toys, and ropes but to no avail. Other than her Kong (and she only plays with that because she wants the food; she has no interest in the Kong itself), this IQ Treat Ball is the only other toy that she plays with. It took us a day and a couple of meals to teach her how to use it. In fact, we started out by making the toy a bit easier by removing the disk in the center altogether. The disk is still out, but we'll be sure to add it when we feel that she needs the challenge. I LOVE the concept of this toy because it teaches dogs how to play, using food as a motivator, and allows them to really think and problem solve (especially for older rescue dogs who have never really been taught). My dog started out constantly getting the ball stuck under the couch and between furniture, but she now knows how to navigate around the house and how to avoid these "problem areas." She originally had no idea how to push the ball around, but now she noses it around eagerly for her kibble. Aside from that, it is easy to open and easy to clean. I see some negative reviews here, which is unfortunate because even though the toy is made of plastic, it IS well-made. (I should note here that my fiance and I have both dropped the ball from kitchen-counter height to the tile on multiple occasions because we're clumsy, and there are no dents or cracks from the impact.) Even on the packaging, the manufacturer gives you the warning that the ball is NOT for aggressive chewers and should absolutely only be given to a dog under guardian supervision. Giving the IQ Treat Ball to an aggressive chewer, not supervising him, and then blaming the manufacturer for injuries is irresponsible. My dog is not a chewer, and I always watch her while she is playing with this toy, so I think that it's a great product. If you have a rescue/shelter dog who doesn't know how to play with toys, I think this is a fantastic start! I highly recommend! UPDATE (7/15/2014): This toy has lasted a whole month since we started using it mid-June. We use it twice a day for breakfast and dinner, and it's still in good shape. The ridges around the ball do have some minor teeth marks on on them, but that's something that I expected would happen. As far as I'm concerned, it's still in great working order. I am ecstatic with this toy because it has functioned as a segue for our rescue. As I mentioned above, she showed absolutely ZERO interest in toys before. However, we've slowly started getting her out of her anti-toy-socialization shell, and I think this IQ Treat Ball has served a part in that. We've had her for about two months, and in that time we've taught her out to play tug-of-war, how to chase after a ball (Very short distances for now, but hey! Baby steps, right?), and how to chew on ropes and other toys. Now, a lot of hard work has gone into shaping these behaviors on our part, but I really do think that the IQ Treat Ball has improved her appetite, not only for food, but for games as well. My original verdict still stands -- I highly recommend!
